Loretta Jean Dodsworth (nee Wildig) passed away peacefully in Victoria on November 28, 2023.  Loretta will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 65 years, Art; her son Stephen, her daughters Sharon (Lloyd) and Christine (Jeff), and grandchildren Leah (Peter), Shawn, and Amanda (waiting for her in heaven).

Loretta was born in Oak Bay on July 7, 1938.  Loretta and Art lived on several RCAF bases in the early years of their marriage before returning home.

Loretta’s bright eyes, smile and infectious laugh brought joy to all who knew her.  She will be dearly remembered and missed.

The family would like to give heartfelt thanks to all the staff at Trillium Douglas Care for their truly compassionate care over the past year.

A family service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a gift in Loretta’s memory to The Land Conservancy (TLC) of British Columbia Abkhazi Garden – one of her favourite places.

My condolences to Art, Steven, Sharon, Christine and all who loved Loretta. She was my delightful cousin. We grew up together. The visits to Aunt Essie and Uncle Chick’s house were among the happiest of my life. Marg and Loretta would play Roy Rogers and Dale Evans. They let me be Gabby Hayes and occasionally the dog (Bullet?). Loretta had a wonderful sense of humour and a soft and nurturing style. She had an uncanny ability to know what you were about to say–often finishing our sentences before we had even thought of them. Throughout the years Art and Loretta were a constant source of family warmth and generosity. It was so gratifying to have my own children, Hilary and Ben, get to experience this warmth and generosity themselves. Loretta sparkled and cast a warm, soft glow on all our lives. We will miss her dearly.

Our thoughts are with you all; Art, Steven, Sharon & Christine and your families as we reflect on what a wonderful person Loretta was. She did indeed have an infectious laugh and you folks were wonderful to me when I first left Powell River and came to Victoria. Had many wonderful Sunday suppers at your place, which I always looked forward to! My Mom (Bernice) and Loretta were steadfast cousins, whom kept in touch throughout all of their lives. She will be often thought of and truly missed.
