Our loving father and grandfather died peacefully June 30, 2012 at the Victoria Hospice. Lorne was born July 16, 1917 in Montreal. He was predeceased by his beloved Betty in 2008. Lorne leaves us many cherished memories and will be deeply missed by his daughter, Lisa and her husband, Jim Vanstone; son, David and grandchildren, Edward (Sarah), Gordon and Gregory and great-grandson, Greg Jr. In 1943, Lorne supported Canada’s WWII war effort by joining the Royal Canadian Air Force where he served overseas in England and France. Returning from the war, Lorne married the love of his life, Betty and they raised their family in Toronto, Chatham and Burlington. Lorne had a successful and respected 50 year career with the investment firm James Richardson and Sons. After his retirement in 1992, Lorne and Betty moved to Victoria to be close to their daughter, Lisa and family. Lorne always enjoyed his son David’s visits from Toronto. Lorne liked walking along Willows Beach, going to the symphony and art gallery, dinners with his family and visiting friends. He will be lovingly remembered by all for his long and fruitful life, intelligence, wit, and his devotion to family.

There will be a private family service in McCall’s Chapel. Interment in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto and a small family service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Victoria Hospice or the charity of one’s choice. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Lisa/David: sorry to hear of Lorne’s passing. I had met Lorne several times through Betty, who worked for us at Sunnybrook for many years. One of those times was at their house in the Governor’s Bridge area , which I just happened to pass on my bike on the weekend. I remember Lorne as a ‘classy ‘ ,intelligent man and I know he will be deeply missed along with your mom.

I am very sorry to read that Lorne passed away recently. I had the pleasure of getting to know both Lorne and Betty through Recreation Oak Bay.

I teach a fitness class for seniors and can still remember seeing Betty in class many, many years ago. Betty rarely missed a session as Lorne always made sure that Betty was on time and ready to roll. Lorne was a real gentleman and his love for Betty was a joy to watch.

Thank you for the great photo of Lorne. Lorne was truly one of the good guys.

To the family I offer my deepest sympathy,
    Graham Lamb

Sincere sympathies to the family. . .I was a colleague of Lorne at Richardson Greenshields in Toronto from the time I joined in 1983. Lorne was a mentor to me and always always had time to share his knowledge and wisdom, which, to this day, have contributed to my success and to the person I have become.

Our condolences to you Lisa, and to your family on the passing of Lorne. He was a first class guy and we enjoyed his enthusiasm and intelligence whenever we visited. We first met Betty and Lorne on a Cruise to Alaska at the table we were to share for our 1995 voyage. What a delightful couple to share many more times over the years at each others’ homes. We miss them dearly.

Dear Lisa- We were so sorry to hear of Lorne’s passing. What a lovely and gracious man your father was. Just a year ago he was welcoming us into his lovely home in Victoria, and helping us get our daughter Devyn set up for her first year at UVic. Thinking of you all.

Dear Lisa and Jim – I was shocked and saddened to read your Dad’s obituary in this morning’s Globe and Mail. He seemed so well a year ago when went out for lunch with the Thompsons. I did not hear from him or the T’s at Christmas and got no reply when I tried phoning him; I do not have your phone no. or address. We were such close friends with both your parents for a long time, and I had a good cry this morning to think of them both gone! You were very good to both of them and will feel their loss. Please accept my sincere sympathy.

I would love to hear from you what happened to your Dad. If you have time, please get in touch with me when you are in Toronto and come to see me if it is convenient.

    Love, Lisa Parsons

    Dear Lisa and Jim,
We read with sadness, tinged with fond memories, of the final flight of your great Dad. He almost made his 95th- what a long life! Our memories are of your Mom and Dad at our B&B. My, we had some fun times and stories aplenty! Now we feel mostly happiness that Lorne is reunited with the love of his life. I’m sure that he and Betty are both looking down at us with great contentment! Your Dad must have been happy also to see his old RCAF title reintroduced- I certainly was !!
We wish you and your family time to grieve, but most certainly time to remember a great Mom and Dad.
