Lorraine Preston (nee Glass) died June 23, 2012. Lorraine was born in Vancouver, BC in 1923 and as an only child, moved with her parents to Victoria in 1937, where she graduated from Victoria High School in 1940. Lorraine was a member of the Victoria Girls Drill Team for many years. Her first job was as a store clerk at the Metropolitan Store on Douglas Street in Victoria followed by several years at BC Telephone Company. She met and married a navy guy in 1945, a marriage which lasted 61 years and took her from Churchill, Manitoba to St John, NB and back to Victoria. After her kids were older, she worked as a Welcome Wagon hostess for years, something she really enjoyed. In “retirement” she and Mark volunteered at the hospitals on behalf of St. Patrick’s Parish visiting hospitalized parishioners. She leaves behind her son, Donald (Lynne); daughter, Marilyn; grandchildren, Keith Preston (Kaarina Lenk) and Carole Preston and great-grandchildren, Elliott and Iza Preston Lenk and her best friend since she was a child, Jean Porteous of Burnaby. She was predeceased by Mark in 2006 and her parents, Pearl (1963) and Wes Glass (1970). Lorraine was an outgoing, beautiful, kind-hearted person, inside and out and loved by all who knew her. Thank you to the caring and compassionate staff at Hart House, where she resided.

There will be a private family memorial with interment at Hatley Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

My mother, Mary Mason, wishes me to send her condolences to Lorraine’s family. Mum has had a stroke and is now in Victoria General Hospital. She remembers Lorraine lovingly. Your parents were Godparents to my brother, Allan, who died in 1999.
May God bless you all. Carla Moffatt

I first knew Lorraine as a neighbour on Fell Street and joined the drill team with her. I was one of the honor guards at her wedding to Mark. We became great friends and have kept in touch
over the years. She was indeed a lovely person and my thoughts are with her family. (Phyllis MacMillan)

Marilyn, I remember with fondness your mother’s visit to me at RJH when I was hospitalized there about 8 years ago…..and I now send a virtual hug your way…..acknowledging that it’s been a challenging journey for you and your family, and may you now find solace in the knowledge that Lorraine left our world peacefully.
