Born March 14th 1950, Edmonton
Passed away July 30th 2009, Victoria.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lynn Calder. Lynn was a warm and compassionate woman – a proud, devoted and loving mother whose children meant the world to her. She was a dedicated and passionate teacher who made a lasting impact on the lives of the many children she taught in her thirty year career in the Saanich school district.
Lynn loved music, and was a wonderful piano player in both jazz and classical styles. She loved traveling and photography and leaves behind countless joy-filled photo albums from many family vacations. Lynn took great pleasure in her garden and had an impeccable eye for decorating, always having a new home improvement project on the go.
She is pre-deceased by her loving father and mother, Harvey & Jean Johnston. She is survived by her children Stephen (Kanako) Calder and Kathryn Calder, their father Stuart Calder and her brother Ray Johnston. Later in life she was re-united with her birth family and is survived by her birth mother Irene Newman and her siblings Ross, Leona, Kaia, Karen and Carl.
She fought a courageous battle against ALS, and we would like to sincerely thank all of her devoted family and friends and the staff at Victoria Hospice for all of their care and support.
She is much loved, will be greatly missed, and is forever in our hearts and memories.
A memorial service celebrating Lynn Calder’s life will be held on Friday, August 7th at 2:00pm in the McCall Bros Floral Chapel, Victoria.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the ALS Society of Canada.

To Kathryn, Steven & all Lynn’s family,
Although I only knew Lynn at the end stages of her illness, seeing her/you at Hospice, what will stay with me is her gentle spirit, and great patience with her limitations. And Kathryn, your gentle dedication with caring for your Mom. I didn’t meet you Steven but I felt I knew her better through your stories at her service today. It was beautiful, and love the CD.

I hope your healing is also gentle and you find peace and joy in all your memories.

  • Alex, Tonya, Brooklyn and Austin Calder

We wish we could be there in person to celebrate her life and mourn with you her passing.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you and her.

    All our Love,

Alex, Tonya, Brooklyn and Austin Calder
