Margaret passed away peacefully at home at the age of 84 surrounded by family on May 11th2024. Margaret was born on June 2nd, 1939, in Victoria BC and was predeceased by her husband Stuart, parents (John and Clara) and her sister Joan (Ray). Margaret is survived by her brother Bob (Doris) and two sons David and John as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Margaret will be missed by many relatives and friends.

Margaret met her husband Stuart through the sports community, attending several social events put on by The Oak Bay Wanderers Rugby club where both her brother-in-law (Ray Calton) and soon to be husband Stuart were members. They married in December 1964.

Margaret was a spirited and highly independent person who loved her family and cherished her friends and neighbors. As a youth and into adulthood, Margaret was an excellent athlete. From playing ice hockey with friends and siblings on her uncle’s farm on Bow Road, to playing grass hockey, softball and curling later in life, Margaret’s passion for sport endured.

After getting married, Margaret worked for Eaton’s department store until the arrival of her sons David and John. Margaret was also a dedicated volunteer, volunteering with the Queen Alexandra Solarium Jr league and later in life with the March of Dimes.

Margaret enjoyed travelling with Stuart, taking trips to Europe and Japan along with serval cruises and road trips throughout North and Central America. She also enjoyed recreational time with her family including camping, boating, and spending time on Thetis Island with the dogs.

She also enjoyed relaxing at home, spending many hours taking in the beauty of her garden from her sunroom.

The Family would like to thank Island Health care workers, the palliative response team and Cridge Pharmacy for their dedicated work and support over the last five years.  A heartfelt thanks to Darlene Anderson for her dedicated and compassionate care of Margaret which allowed her to stay in her home she so cherished over these years, this would not have been possible without you. Thank you.

A private interment has occurred, in lieu of flowers please consider donating to the Red Cross.

Stuart and Margaret were our wonderful next door neighbours since 1989. We enjoyed chatting about gardening, dogs and sports! Margaret was a true sports buff! She also was a second mom to our dog Bailey and would have her into the sunroom for a daily visit. We are grateful to have had them in our lives. The commitment and love shown by their sons as their health declined has been remarkable to witness. They raised wonderful boys. Wishing the family beautiful memories and peace.

I am very sorry to hear of Mrs. Wright’s passing. As you know, our parents were friends for many years and my mom and Marg had a lot of great times together – it was quite common to listen to them on the phone for hours when we were young. I am hoping that all of your wonderful memories help you through this difficult time!
