Born Margaret Begg Anderson on August 31, 1911 in Victoria, BC. Margaret died March 25, 2009 at Glenwarren Lodge in Victoria. She will be fondly remembered by her daughter, Joan Young; granddaughters, Dianne Gaudin (Glen), Janet Estes (Jeff), Sandra Cook (John Greci); step-grandson, Philip Young; and great grandchildren, Devin, Zoe, Max and Ben Estes, and Victoria Gaudin.
Margaret attended school in Victoria. After graduation form Victoria High School she took teacher training at the Victoria Normal School which was then located at Craigdarroch Castle. Her lengthy career in education began in the Peace River District where she met and married Joe (Johann) Phillipson who predeceased her in 1998. Margaret was also predeceased by her parents, David and Janet Anderson; and her brothers, David and Frank.

The family wishes to thank the Reminiscence Unit Staff at Sunrise of Victoria for the care they provided during the six years before Margaret moved to Glenwarren Lodge in August 2007. The family also thanks the staff at Glenwarren Lodge for the care, understanding and kindness they have shown to Margaret through the closing stage her “long journey.” Special thanks to Margaret’s companion, Marcella, who brightened her final months with smiles, songs and lots of hugs.
Burial at Royal Oak Burial Park entrusted to McCall Bros. A remembrance gathering will be held at a later date to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Research Centre, Faculty of Medicine, 2211 Westbrook Mall, Vancouver, BC V6T 2B5 or to a charity of your choice.
