It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Margie on Sunday, July 20th after a valiant fight with brain cancer. She faced the difficult journey with courage and dignity for over two years.

She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her devoted husband Joe and their family – son Kevin (Joanna, grandchildren Laura, Maggie, Christopher, and Peter) and daughters Marilyn (Rob, grandchildren Keegan, Jane, and Finley) and Denise (Lou). Margie will also be dearly missed by her sister Pat and brother John, as well as extended family and many, many caring friends.

Margie was born in Victoria on January 31", 1938 to Jack and Doris Horne. She was baptized, confirmed, and married at Christ Church Cathedral, and was also a bell ringer during her teens and twenties. Margie and Joe had their first date at the Vic High Homecoming Dance in 1955. They celebrated their forty-seventh wedding anniversary on July 8th.

Margie was an integral part of the Cordova Bay community, volunteered countless hours to many worthwhile causes, and enriched the lives of all who knew her. Margie delighted in her role as a stay-at-home mom and later as a loving, active grandmother.

A heartfelt thank-you to all the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Palliative Care Unit of Saanich Peninsula Hospital for their compassionate care and devotion to Margie during her final months.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Palliative Care Unit at Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

Please join us for a celebration of Margie’s life on Friday, August 1st at 1:00 p.m. in CHRIST CHURCH CATHEDRAL, Quadra at Courtney Streets.
