Margaret (Meg) Alice Horton, 87, of Victoria, B.C., passed away to her eternal home on August 6, 2025, at the Royal Jubilee Hospital.
The family is most grateful to the staff and volunteers at the Hospice, Palliative, and Emergency wards for their care of our beloved Mom during the final weeks of her life.
Meg was born on August 31, 1937, to Ada and John Park in Victoria, B.C. Meg was predeceased by her loving husband, Dr. T. Bevan Horton, after 49 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her two brothers Lloyd and Alex Park, her sister Winnie Streeton, and grandson Steven Schulz.
Her greatest joy was her family and she was a devoted mother to Wendy (Jurgen), Julie (Brian), Tim (Julie), and Jenny, and is survived by nine grandchildren – Celina, Jonathan (Sarah), Caleb, Elisa (JP), Taylan (Lauren), Lyndon (Sofi), Brianna, Judith and Maggie, as well as four great-grandchildren – Rowan, Ada, Carl, and Soren. Her loss will be felt deeply by her family and friends.
Meg had a remarkable gift of turning her home into a welcoming place of refuge, a place of beauty and joy and laughter, a place where God was present. Countless people were blessed by her kindness, her cooking and her wisdom. She always seemed to have time and room in her heart for others. There were many who called her Mom, including a large group of Vietnamese refugees and others who came to know and love her during visits to Bolivia.
“Her children (and a multitude of others) stand and bless her” (Proverbs 31:28).
Though weak in body, she was strong in spirit, and able to say goodbye to many of you during her final days at the Hospice. We thank each of you for your visits, texts, emails, and calls. She enjoyed the opportunity to reconnect and it gave her a second wind. All the love and support was greatly appreciated.
A celebration of life will be held at the fellowship hall of Central Baptist Church on August 10, 2025, at 2:30 PM. Access to the parkade is from 2:00 PM until 2:45 PM and you can leave at any time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gideons International in memory of “Meg Horton for Bolivia”. https://gideons.org/giving-purposes#WorldwideScriptureNeeds
