Margaret Roberts was born in South Shields, England, and died peacefully in Victoria at the age of 94. A woman of amazing energy, optimism and cheer, Margaret lived life fully and joyfully to the very end.
She is lovingly remembered by her three sons: David (Cathy), Kevin (Diane) and Brian (Ngaire); her cherished grandchildren Sarah (Conner), Emma, Sierra, and Tylo and her great-grandchild, Declan. She was predeceased by her husband, Anthony Roberts, with whom she shared 56 wonderful years of marriage, travel and exploration.
After immigrating from England to Canada in the 1950’s, Margaret embraced her adopted country with enthusiasm—skiing, hiking, and canoeing with her family. With her friends, she explored Greater Victoria leading the Wednesday Wanderers walking group on over 2000 hikes across an incredible 54 years. She also delighted in many hours of Mahjong and Bridge, always valuing laughter and companionship.
Keeping up with her active grandchildren she always said: “Never say you’re too old.” Always cheerful and always busy, she brought light to everyone around her and will be deeply missed by family and friends alike.
Margaret’s advice for life’s challenges was always “go for a brisk walk”. She liked to walk to see what’s around the corner, so we leave her to look around that final corner.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Rivian and Brian Weinerman As others have said she always appeared full of energy with a bright and cheery smile and very rosy cheeks and bright blue eyes. She always had her walking poles with her and would look at you curiously, if you were driving your car passing her by as if to say, you should be out here walking! She attended all strata gatherings, making sure that we all knew she was an important part of our strata. She will be and is being missed. Bon voyage Margaret.

Kim and Nick Walker A school band concert not have been complete without the quintessential grandparents in attendance leading the charge to show interest and care of family. A legacy rippling through the generations.

Val & Bob Bakowski Wow! we were shocked to hear of Margaret’s passing. We have been neighbors for 20 years and I have never met a 94 year old with so much life in her. I always enjoyed my visits with Margaret when dropping off some home-made fudge or offering her a ride up the hill. Always positive and in a good mood, she was a bright spot in my day. Our cat also loved visiting with her and would always roll over so that Margaret could pet her stomach. To this day, I cannot have a cup of tea without recalling her telling me that the British people drank a lot of tea because it would be a reason to have a little biscuit or treat at the same time. Loved her smile and will miss her cute little giggle.

Cassie and Brad Niessen We are so sorry and shocked to read of Margaret’s passing, because she was like the energizer bunny of the street. If she wasn’t walking down for groceries she was riding back up the hill on her bike. She was always so lovely to chat with. She will be missed greatly for inspiration on how to be 94 yet act like 54. We should all be so lucky.

David, Tracy and Tegan Francis We all have fond and loving memories of Margaret. She and Tony welcomed us into their home, and took great delight in helping us to make the most of our visits. We learnt the hard way that Margaret’s level of fitness set a standard to be aspired to. Her ‘easy walks’ along the coast entailed much rapid and slippery progress to reach the pickup point on time.
Margaret was also a very creative person, and we all admired the many products she crafted for her home. She was especially kind to keep in touch with Jacquie Francis in the UK, who, with the rest of us, will miss her greatly.

Margaret’s Christmas cards were amazing, saying all that she and
her family had done, travelling, hiking, skiing! She and Tony were
very hospitable when I did a backpacking tour many years ago.
Our condolences are with all Margaret’s family who have many happy
memories to cherish.
