GORTER, Margaretha Roelofje passed away peacefully on February 11, 2012 at the age of 81 years. She had suffered a severe stroke one week prior. Her sons Andrew (Karen), Wilfred (Dianne) and Robert (Debora) are grateful for the excellent care she received and feel blessed that they could offer comfort and be with her in her last days. Despite the severity of her condition, Mom spent her final days surrounded by light-hearted banter and the laughter of her family recalling a life shared together. A strong, independent-minded woman, Margaret lived her faith in God and maintained a positive outlook in life through the very difficult losses of her husband John (1998) and her son Ian (2000). She continued to look forward to new experiences with her family and friends. Grandma, or Oma, will be missed by her grandchildren Katherine (Nic), Allison, Brianne, Evan and Teagan.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Victoria Christian Reformed Church, 661 Agnes Street. Flowers gratefully declined in favour of donations to the Victoria Food Bank. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Dear Andrew and Karen Gorter, we are so sorry to hear that mother passed away. We didn’t know and today happened to speak with an elderly sister of mine and we spoke about my wife and I having been on the island & City of Victoria, 2003, We visited there with Margaret, cousin John’s wife. Your mom and dad visited us during the ninety’s. Your father and I were cousins- mothers were sisters. I now feel so bad of not having known of your mother’s passing. We certainly believe that she is in a better place- a place of promised glory. Please contact us- email address above. Our sincere condolences.

My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you. I felt comforted by the beautiful memories that you shared with us at Margaret’s Memorial Service, and I know she would have been enormously proud of all of you. Her picture is on my fridge and I hear her voice saying “Judith, you don’t NEED that cake!”

    I miss her very much….
