December 16, 1938 – July 16, 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Maria Natalia Viveiros, affectionately known to her family as Vavó Maria. She passed away peacefully at Victoria General Hospital in Victoria, BC, on July 16, 2026, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Maria was born on December 16, 1938, in Ponta Garça, São Miguel, Azores. On February 8, 1961, she married the love of her life, Manuel Pacheco Viveiros, who predeceased her on March 12, 2014. Together, they built a life centred on family, love, and tradition.

On July 5, 1974, the family immigrated to Canada, settling in Victoria, BC, where she made her home for the next 52 years.

Maria’s greatest joy was her family. She believed family always came first and remained closely connected to her children, speaking with them every day. She treasured family dinners, outings, and every opportunity to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Maria was a talented and hardworking professional seamstress who continued to live independently in her own home until her passing. She enjoyed the simple things in life, especially cooking for the people she loved. Her family will always remember the warmth of her kitchen, her traditional Portuguese dishes, and her homemade sweet bread, known as Massa.

Maria is survived by her four children: Tony (Shannon), with grandchildren Amanda (Brett) and Caitlin (Jeremy), and great-grandchildren Sophia and Oaklynn; Natalia (Rob), with grandchildren Ricky (Karissa) and Corey (Maria), and great-grandchildren Carlos, Logan, and Mason; John, with granddaughter Natasha; and Sara (Colin), with grandchildren Charleen (Rhett) and James, and great-granddaughter Gracie.

Maria’s love, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family will be deeply missed and remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Services will be held at Our Lady of Fatima Parish, 4635 Elk Lake Drive, Victoria, BC, on Thursday, July 23rd , 2026. A viewing at 10:00am, followed by the Rosary at 10:30am and Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Interment to follow at Royal Oak Burial Park.
