May 9, 1916 – January 13, 2012

The family is saddened to announce the passing of Marjorie at the grand age of 95. She was born in Victoria and lived here all her life.

Predeceased by her husband, John Jesse in 1988. Survived by sons Bill (Ann) and Tom (Reta); grandsons Mike (Tilura), and Jeff (Candice); granddaughter Erin; great-grandson Nicholas; nieces and nephews; friends from Bears at Juan de Fuca; and special friends Ginny Rossell, and Sylvia and Don Hatfield.

A very special Mum, Grandma, Great-grandma, and friend to all those blessed to have known her. She had a remarkable ability to recall names, dates, and details of family activities, and always asked about family, friends, and events in their lives.

Throughout her long life Marjorie loved to garden; having a “green thumb” that seemed to make almost anything grow. In her early years, she, with her Dad, William Burch, operated a market garden, growing and preparing vegetables and fruits for sale at the old Victoria City Market.

Mum was admitted to Hospice at the Richmond Pavilion, then transferred to, and recently passed away at, Oak Bay Lodge. We extend special thanks and appreciation to the doctors and nursing staff at both facilities for their professional and loving care.

Until she could no longer hold the needles, Marjorie knitted infant toques for Canada Comforts, the organization that has sent hundreds of her knitting items to impoverished countries to help keep the children warm. Marjorie was loved by all, and will always be in our hearts.

Funeral Service will be held at McCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Vancouver & Johnson Streets, tel: (250) 385-4465, on January 23, 2012 at 11:00 am. A reception will be held in McCall Bros. Family Centre followed by an internment at Hatley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made out to the BC Cancer Society, www.bccancerfoundation.com. Bill, Ann, and family
Our condolences for the loss of your Mother. I have good memories of your Mom, and always remember her being truly interested in what us boys were involved in – Scouts, Cadets, or just tearing around on our motorcycles.
Remember the good times, and take care of yourselves.
