On Tuesday, January 15, Mary Booth, affectionately known as Mae, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Glengarry Hospital at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Victor, and three siblings, Joan, Lorraine and Jack and sister-in-law Anne. She is survived by her loving son, Gerry, her grandchildren Michelle, Sean (JoAn) and Ryan (Olivia) and her adored and adoring grandchildren, Victoria and Cullen. She is also survived by her dear sisters, Margaret Johnson and Irene Ash along with many cousins and their families.

A kind and caring lady, Mae was an avid sports fan and still enjoyed televised games. In her younger days, she and Victor travelled and gardened competitively with each other while she enjoyed working in retail at Eaton’s Department Store.

The family would like to thank all of the staff at Glengarry for their exceptionally fine care over the past few years, especially making sure she was able to visit her sisters on Fridays and also ensuring that the television was tuned to her favourite sports programs.

Also special thanks to her neighbours, Kevin and Bernie who visited and facilitated face time with her family in Ontario and Emily who watched over her when she was at home as well as at Glengarry.

There will be no funeral or visitation and cremation has taken place. Family and friends will gather in spring to share memories and scatter her ashes next to her beloved Victor.

My condolences to Mae’s family. She was a sweet lady with a great smile and always friendly. I knew Mae through her sister Irene Ash. Irene and I worked together in the Cash Office at Eaton’s for many years.
Wishing her family strength from memories of happy time with Mae.

    Dear Gerry and family:
I and others in my family are very saddened by Mae’s passing. In late 2014, it was our good fortune that my mother was moved into the same room as Mae at GG. It wasn’t long before I looked forward to visiting with her as much as with my mum. With Mae I could always have a great chat and lots of laughs. And she was very sweet with my mother, always sharing her newspaper and treats. I also appreciated Mae’s good memory: she gave me regular reports about how my mum was doing and the activities she was taking part in.
I so hoped Mae would recover from her last bout of flu/virus, and when I chatted briefly with her in the late afternoon on the 14th I felt she just might. She was a force. However, if anyone had earned the right to a rest after a long life, it was Mae.
Our condolences to all in Mae’s family,
    Georgina Montgomery
