Mary Doreen Resch, (nee Vince) passed away peacefully while being comforted by family at Royal Jubilee Hospital at 4:30 pm on Monday, May 30, 2016. Mary was 87 years old. She suffered cardiac arrest and did not survive subsequent resuscitation.
Mary was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on November 18th, 1928. She was the second child and first daughter of Dorothy May and Alec Edwin Vince of Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was predeceased by both parents and her brother Frank Vince also of Winnipeg. She is survived by her husband Gerald Douglas Resch, her sister Shirley May Lowther of Victoria, BC and her nephews; Kerry Gordon Lowther of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Kevin Douglas Lowther (Heather) of Fairmont Hot Springs, BC.
On leaving high school, Mary became a secretary and enjoyed a productive working life culminating as secretary to a number of Canadian Forces military commanders. As a supportive military spouse, she served in numerous locations in Canada and in Europe. Having trained on piano in her early years, Mary retained a love of music in all its forms. Returning to Victoria in 1983, she retired and became an avid hiker with the local Cordova Bay hiking group. Later, when her hiking days ended, she developed a latent talent in painting and drawing and achieved personal satisfaction with her development and progress. Mary was a kind, gentle and compassionate person who saw the best in people and was ready to help them whenever she could. She had a particular fondness for animals and although her little dog Teddy was gone she always kept his dish out for visitors.
At Mary’s request, she will be cremated and in lieu of a funeral, she would prefer a quiet family ceremony with interment at Royal Oak Burial Park. McCall Brothers Funeral Directors will be handling arrangements. Mary was never much for ceremony or formal functions but she would be pleased if her friends gathered to remember her at her home at 1986 Wenman Drive, Victoria, BC on Saturday, 4th June from 1: 00 to 4:00 pm.
Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of British Columbia.
