January 14, 1927 – October 8, 2013

Mary passed away peacefully at home in the arms of her beloved husband Cyril of 67 years. Mary was born in Glasgow Scotland. She served with the British Army inWW11 where she met and married her Canadian Army soldier Cyril in Glasgow, Scotland on May 28, 1946. That same year, as a war bride, she traveled by train across Canada until she arrived at her destination Sundre, Alberta. A few years later they moved to Calgary, Alberta and for 50 years made Calgary their home.

Mary was very fond of children and for many years looked after the Casey and Price children. She also owned and ran her own coffee shop. She loved singing and sang with a band on the radio during Stampede week. Mary loved life and liked to have a good time even a “wee dram” now and then.

In 2002 they moved to Victoria, BC to be close to their daughter, son-in-law and grandson. She had a great sense of humour, an infectious laugh and she knew everyone from people at the grocery store, to the bank, her favorite restaurants and her favorite pub.

Mary will be forever remembered and missed by her husband Cyril, her daughter Christeen (Steve), her grandson Stephen (Carol), her brother John (Edna) in Scotland and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Capital City Centre Hotel, 1961 Douglas Street, Victoria, BC on Saturday, November 16, 2013 at 2:00 pm with the toast at 3:00 pm.

    Granddad, Christeen, Steve and Steven

I sit here writing to you on behalf of all of us of the Friesen Clan. I keep thinking that there is something I should say but everyone seems to have said it over and over again.
Grannie came into my life just after I had lost my Dad and Grandmother, she made me feel as if there had never left. I have so many great many memories of Grannie that I will always and forever cherish in my heart. I keep hearing her singing the Flower of Scotland. Cameron and Daniel will miss her hugs and kisses but they will have their memories and her pictures.
Tony is missing a special lady that always hugged him and made him feel apart of your so, so special family.
As someone said we could go on, and on forever.
So we are sending four of the biggest hugs and kisses. We will be thinking of you during this time.
When we come out at Christmas, we will have a wee bit of dram in Grannie’s honor and as Daniel says “Sprite”!

    Love you so much!

    Ann, Tony, Cameron, Daniel XOXOXOXO

Remembering a lovely little lady with an infectious Scottish accent that rubbed off the more time spent with her. This picture is how we remember Aunt Mary. She will remain in our hearts forever.
    Love,

Uncle Cyril, Christine, Steve and Steven
My heart is so sad that I have lost one of my favorite people in the world. I loved her so much. I have been thinking of all the great memories that I have hanging out with you Uncle Cyril and Auntie Mary. Things like listening to her sing The Rose and Nobody s child and of course Scotland the Brave. Swimming in your pool in the back yard doing hand stands with Steven until we were exhausted, I could go on forever. I am so thankful that we got to spend time with you at Hailey s volleyball. Sending you all the biggest hug. Love you so much. xoxoxoxox
