The family of Lilian MARY Jones are greatly saddened to announce her death, on Wednesday morning, January 15, 2014, at the age of 96. Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband, Alan Jones and survived by three sons, Ed (Susan), Ken (Kelley) and Glen (Mary Lou). Grandmother of Steven, Michael, Matthew, Meghan, Devon and Clare. Great grandmother of Aiden, Hanna, Kaileigh, Sean, Jordan, Owen and Benjamin. Mary was also predeceased by her brothers John Crossley Peat and Samuel Spencer Peat. She is survived by her loving sisters, Ruth Robertson of Shaunavon, Saskatchewan and Kay Renton of Calgary, Alberta. Mary had a long and happy journey through life. She was born in Parkland, Alberta on May 12, 1917 to Samuel Spencer Peat and Hilda Crossley. The Peat family were very close friends with the Jones family of Parkland and in 1944, Mary married her best friend, Alan Jones. They enjoyed nearly 62 years of married life, until Alan’s death in 2006. They started married life in the East Kootenays, where Alan taught school and moved to Victoria where they raised their three sons. They were both very involved in the life of Metropolitan United Church and were always eager to help with any aspect of church life. Mary was the perfect mate for Alan Jones. She was sensitive, loving, loyal and generous with her time and heart. Their door was always open to people in need of friendship and support. She was truly full of grace.

A memorial service celebrating Mary’s life will be held Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at 2:30 pm at McCall’s Funeral Chapel, Johnson and Vancouver Street, with Mr David King officiating. A reception will follow. The family is deeply grateful for the care Mary received while at Berwick House. We would like to thank all the staff for their wonderful and compassionate care.

    To Ed, Ken, and Glen:
I would like to offer my most sincere sympathy on the passing of your precious mother. My husband Jim, and I were students of your Dad’s at Mt. Doug in the ’50’s, and were so delighted to be reacquainted with your parents a few years ago. I believe we met Ken at their home on one occasion. We saw them a few more times, and cherished our visits with them. What beautiful people they both were.
I’m sad to tell you that my dear Jim passed away last Jan. so they will all be together now. You all have a wonderful legacy in your amazing parents. Sincerely, Janet Mercer

I was sorry to read in the paper that your mother had died. She was a wonderful neighbour and I still make the pineapple carrot muffins from a recipe she gave me over 30 years ago. My sincere condolences.
