Born September 9, 1921

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Peirce, dear wife of The Venerable Frederick Peirce. Mary passed away Tuesday, July 17, 2012 in Victoria, BC after a short illness. Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Bill Stewart in 1986. Mary will be dearly missed by family and a wide circle of friends. She is survived by her three sons and their families; Jim (Jinty), Andrew, Robin, and great-grandchildren, Claire and Maddie, Gord (Sandy), Will and Charlie and Dave (Cathy), Dana, Christine and Brett. Mary’s grandchildren and great- grandchildren were her greatest joy throughout her life. Mary will also be fondly remembered by the Peirce children, Susan Joy and Christopher, and their children.

Mary graduated in nursing from The Toronto General Hospital and in later life spent time teaching and leading school children at The Vancouver Museum of Anthropology and the Vancouver Aquarium. After 25 years of service at the Royal British Columbia Museum in Victoria, she was honoured as an emeritus volunteer docent. Her unfailing faith never left this gracious woman.

A service will be held in Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria on Monday, July 23, 2012 at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to The British Columbia Children’s Hospital gratefully received.

“Sleep our love and peace attend thee.”

    Dear Dave and Cathy,

Both Lorey and I were very saddened to hear about the passing of your mom and mother in law. The obituary was beautifully written and echoed the lovely picture that accompanied it and it is easy to see where you get your personality, charm, grace and wit. From the small bio we have read, your mom has indeed touched many lives across a myriad of social circles. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family in this sad time. Please pass on our condolences to the rest of your extended family. Much love, Brian & Lorey

Dear dear Jim & Jinty, Fred and all the Stewarts
It’s the end of an era! Mary was always so gracious, beautifully turned out and interested in what was happening in our lives. A role model for how to relate to younger people. Mary and Bill were favourite people in the lives of my late parents Wynne and Norm Bell. The families kept in touch after Bill’s death and I had the good fortune to see Mary on a couple of more recent occasions in Muskoka. She was a dear heart, and I for one will miss her being well and happy with Fred in Victoria. You are in my thoughts and prayers over the next few days and weeks.
    Much love
    Joey (Brown)
