It is with profound sorrow that we announce the sudden passing of Rick on Monday, March 8, 2010 in Victoria, after a valiantly fought battle against cancer and a stroke. He was born in Toronto, Ontario on February 9, 1948. Rick leaves such a void in the lives of his loving family – wife of 40 years, May; his daughter, Shauna; and his son, Corey, of whom he was so very proud; and extended family and friends. Winston will miss his beloved “Papadaddio.”

Rick was a proud 30-year member of the Victoria City Police upon his retirement. After retiring he continued to enjoy hunting, camping, fishing, hiking and teaching his courses.

Special thanks to Jim and Simone for their love and support, and to nurses Nikki and Ashley at 2 Royal for their caring and compassion.

Private cremation. A celebration of Rick’s life will be held at Royal Canadian Legion, Prince Edward Branch # 91, 761 Station Road, Langford on Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 2:00 pm. Please bring your fondest memories to share. Donations in Rick’s memory can be made to BC Cancer Agency, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC V8R 6V5

It’s been two years now. I miss him as much now as I did at the beginning. Time’s supposed to help these things heal but some people just don’t fade much…

May and family, I am so sorry to hear of Rick’s passing. I was so looking forward to visiting him again this summer on my trip to Victoria.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time of sorrow, but remember Rick is now resting and looking over you all.

It seems like yesterday when we were in Creston at your wedding and Rick was thanking your parents for you and wonder were his four new tires were for his car…he always like a laugh and a good time he will be sadly missed by all…

Years ago Rick and I worked and hunted together. I will always cherish the times we had together. From checking out cars on Dallas Rd. and Clover Point at all hours of the night or early mornings, to great times out in the bush hunting anything that moved. He will be missed.
Even though he has passed on, you will still have the opportunity to be with him again in the eternities

Hello May. I just heard through Rosemary Smith of the sudden passing of your husband Rick. I wanted to express my sincere condolences to you and your family. I did not know Rick personally, but having got to know you over the years and the way you spoke so lovingly of him from time-to-time, I always felt that Rick must have been a very special man. Once again, I am so sorry for your loss. Take good care of yourself.

My heart goes out to all of you. It is hard to find the right words to say. I will miss Rick as my neighbour and the wonderful chats we had especially on those warm summer days when I would come home for lunch from work and he would rub it in on how he was retired and enjoying the sunshine and didn’t I wish I was like him, and I would respond stop bragging now mow my lawn damnit! I will miss his rants on a topic he was passionate about, I would stand and listen nodding my head, and sometimes we just shared a beer and some laughs. You were a good man Rick, the neighbourhood will not be the same without you, you were the watchdog for us all. RIP.
