It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful mother, Muriel Kopp on March 8, 2011 at the age of 79. She was predeceased by her brother, John (1962) and her husband, Frank (1986) and she will be lovingly remembered by her children, Colin (Margaret), Karen (Andre); grandchildren, Ian, Lianne, Michelle and Ryan and many other relatives and friends. Muriel was born on January 4, 1932 in Windthorst, Saskatchewan and moved to Victoria in 1946. lt was here that she met her husband Frank and together they raised their family. When not looking after the kids, she worked at various jobs including 20 years at Commercial Towel and Linen and volunteering for many years at the Hampton Seniors Centre.
Muriel enjoyed sewing, knitting, and baking and especially looked forward to Friday night get-togethers with friends and neighbours. Her qualities as a mother and a friend made her very special to us. She will be greatly missed. Special thanks to Drs. Nicoll, Alexander, Lindsay and Mason for their care and support. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the staff at the Lansdowne Unit, Aberdeen Hospital for all their efforts, kindness and care.

A Memorial Service will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2011 with a reception to follow in McCall’s Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations in Muriel’s memory would be appreciated to the Greater Victoria Eldercare Foundation or the charity of your choice. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

    Colin, Karen & Families…
Over the past few days, I have had some time to reflect back on my memories of Cousin Muriel. My first memory was about the age of ten on our farm in Saskatchewan and then, over the years visiting her in Victoria on Earlston and Linden on several occasions. I had the opportunity to meet my Aunt Elsie plus several of our English relatives while visiting with her. We shared lots of laughs over the years, especially at birthday time as our birthdays were only two days apart (and several years). I shall miss her big smile and hearty laughter and feel privileged to have had her in my life.
I shall continue to think of you all and your life with her, knowing that she is now at peace.
    Bless you all,
    Doreen

We are so sorry to hear the sad news about your Mum, Karen, Colin & your families, but it’s good to know that you had time to talk…. being able to say what sometimes goes unsaid, or just to relish the silence and what doesn’t need saying. A blessing.
Please know that we are thinking of you, and of some very happy memories our parents shared with us of their holidays with your ‘Mom’. I shall never forget how patient & kind she was with us Brits, when Mum & I flew over to visit; she even gave up her own bed so that we could have a room each. How sweet is that!
With our fondest love & lots of gentle hugs.
Viv, Nick & Theo; Chris, Jen & family.

On behalf of my Mom (Evelyn) and I we would like to send our deepest sympathy to Colin & Karen and families. We both have very fond memories of your Mom and i know my Mom will truly miss her. Mom and Muriel grew up together in Windthorst Sask. and both moved to Victoria in the forties so were able to continue their close friendship. Your mom always had a smile and an infectious laugh. My fondest memories were the cute animal cakes she made for my birthday parties. She was one of kind and will be missed by all.

I’ll always remember the good times, Muriel was like a second mother to me in my early years and Frank like a second dad at times. I always remember Muriel’s friendly…ýello when answering the telephone, and her very happy disposition. Take care in knowing Muriel was a truly one of the good people, and we’re all glad to have been part of her life.

All the best to your family during these trying times – from the Wells family.

  • Inez Walker (McTaggart)

As I read the newspaper, I see another friend from Windthorst has her spirit released from a tired body. I knew Muriel as a young girl who was always gentle and kind. I lost track of her over the years but reading her obituary it was evident that she had a full life and many friends, and now she sleeps to awaken beyond our awareness.
May the family find comfort in knowing this.

  • Cathie Walker
