MANSELL, Myles Stanley John Myles was born in Victoria on August 5th 1980 to Nancy and Alan Mansell. He spent a full but too short of a life living in the western community of Langford. Myles’s many joys included archery, minor soccer and lacrosse, motorcycles, computers, and of course the Military. Myles joined the 5th Field Regiment at the Victoria Armoury in the spring of 1998 just before he graduated from Belmont High School. To obtain his rank of Bombardier (Corporal) he completed many courses and exercises in and around the Pacific Northwest plus he travelled to both Gagetown N.B., Shilo Man. and Wainright AB. Myles was violently taken from us while proudly serving his country in Afghanistan. Myles was very confident that Canada’s role in Afghanistan was needed for both World peace and the security and well being of the Afghan people. While his immediate family has lost a son and a brother, all of Canada has also lost a loyal and productive son. Myles is survived by his fiancee Lindsay Sullivan, parents Alan and Nancy, brothers Michael (Sonja) Matthew (Sheila), Grandmother Shirley Yorko, Aunts Kate Mansell, Janice Kataoka (Kazuyuki) Dolly Mansell, Uncle Michael Mansell (Leah), Cousins Jeremy Nitsch, Christopher, Luke, and Theresa Mansell, Emily, Midori, and Marina Kataoka, and last but not least his beloved niece Emma Mansell. Myles will be sorely missed not only by his varied and distant family, but also by his innumerable friends and compatriots in the military. Services are to be held at the Christ Church Cathedral (Quadra at Rockland), on Wednesday May 3rd. at 2:00 pm. The public may pay their respects at McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson and Vancouver Streets on Tuesday, May 2, from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse Preservation Society, 603 Fort Rodd Hill Road, Victoria, B.C. V9C 2W8 which was one of Myles’ many favourite haunts, or the 5th (BC) Regiment Foundation.
