After a heroic and lengthy battle with cancer, Nicki passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side. Born and raised in Victoria, she moved to Alberta and for fifteen years pursued a career in social work in Calgary. Returning to B.C. in the 90’s, she continued her career as a social worker until her retirement.
Nicki will be remembered for her enthusiasm, her compassion and her good humour. She loved being surrounded by her family and her many friends. A world traveller, most of all she enjoyed her time at the lake and having everyone visit.
A wonderful wife and mother, sister, daughter, aunt and friend, her love for her family knew no bounds. She will be forever missed and loved by those who were part of her life.
Predeceased by her mother, Virginia, and her father, George, Nicki is survived by her husband, Patrick, and her two children, Virginia and Brenden, her sister, Shelley (Rod), her two brothers, Art, (Louise), and David, (Diane), and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her aunt, Frances Cammiade and her three children, and her cousin, Willie Waddell and her two children.
Our family would like to thank Dr. Rauw and the dedicated staff at the B.C. Cancer Agency for their continued care over the years.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Cancer Agency would be appreciated.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
As we loved you, so we miss you;
In our memory you are near—
Loved, remembered, longed for always,
Bringing many a silent tear
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

No matter the lapses in time, I find that childhood bonds remain strong. I offer Nicki’s family my most heartfelt condolences. I entered Brownies wearing her old uniform (and under the careful eye of Brown Owl Virginia), saw her win pretty much any sports event she entered, and considered myself so fortunate whenever I was invited to join the Winter family dinner table. Nicki and I reconnected in Calgary, then I turned east and she returned to the Island. Even over the miles, please know that I am fondly remembering her and sharing in your loss. All the very best, Cathryn
I worked with Nikki in the Western Communities for a number of years and appreciated her professional abilities, particularly her sensitivity and commitment to the children and families she served. Of particular delight to me was her ever-present humour and good cheer, she could lighten up a room !!

Thanks to the many wonderful years that we lived next door to Virge and George, we got to know all of the Winter family. We are shocked and so sorry that Nicki has passed away and our heartfelt sympathy goes out to everyone. Harvey & Shirley
Hello Pat, David, Deb, Art and family. I was shocked to see the message about Nicki’s passing. Although I am very lousy at maintaining long term relationships, I consider all of you to be friends as you are all part of my life. At my age, you expect to see news from time to time about the passing of people you know. This news is very sad and I know you all must be feeling such grief. I truly offer my sincere condolences. I hope our paths cross again sometime in the future.
Be well.

We are so very sad to hear of Nicki’s passing. Please accept our sympathy for your loss. Nicki played a big role in our life as foster parents. She was our Resource worker for many years and she was available whenever we needed her help! I shared the same battle and I am so saddened that she lost her battle. I’m sure you all have wonderful memories to share and I hope they carry you through your grief. With caring respect for Nicki, Bev and Steve Batchelor, and family.
Nicki was a friend and a mentor to me. She welcomed me with no hesitation and took me under her wings and shared so much of her wisdom with me. Her instincts and her ability to read people amazed me! Her love for people shined through her. She will be dearly missed. To the family, I offer my deepest condolences and comfort.

Our sincere condolences to all of Nikki’s family. Nikki was such a vibrant and energetic friend. We have wonderful memories of our days together through high school, playing badminton and ski trips to Sun Valley.
We are very sorry for your loss.

To David, Shelley, and Art,
I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved sister Nicki.
Some of my most cherished times growing up in Victoria are those spent with your family…camping, boating, sleep overs, and 100 other adventures. I will always remember Nicki’s kindness and patience…even when implicated in misadventures, not of her making. My heart goes out to you.

What a lovely person Nicki was. Bill remembers her as very pleasant and welcoming, and I will never forget all the laughs we bridesmaids had before and after Shelley and Rod’s wedding. Nicki was a real trooper and touched many lives with her kindness, both personally and professionally. Sending written hugs to all the extended Winter clan,
love, Mary and Bill Jackson
Art, we were sad to read of your sister’s passing. We will keep you and your family in our thoughts during this difficult time. Hopefully, when we meet again you can share some favorite memories of Nicki with us. Until then, stay well. Fondly, Terri and Paul
