On Thursday, May 26 2022 Noella Tough passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC after a brief illness.

Noella was born in St. Paul, Alberta and grew up in the St. Paul and Ashmont area. After graduation she travelled to Calgary, then Vancouver, BC where her career led to the senior offices of the BC Supreme Court Chief Justice and high profile BC families. Noella was loved and respected, and remained in touch with many colleagues well into her retirement.

She loved travel, theatre and all things culture; she met the love of her life, John Tough, while working at Queen Elizabeth Theatre and married him in 1975. In retirement, Noella and John moved to Victoria to spend time with family and close friends.

Noella was famous for her calm, kind disposition and her support of everyone she encountered. Her girls’ cruises with her sisters will go down in history. As the youngest of her siblings, Noella was dearly loved by all.

Noella is survived by her husband John Tough, brothers Val LeComte and Charles LeComte, her sister Alda Kugler and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sisters Terry Owen and Bette Ellis. In keeping with Noella’s wishes, a small private family gathering will be held to honour her life at a future date.

John and Family. So sorry about Noella. She was a special person filled with kindness and grace, unlike any other. I will miss her lovely laugh and great conversations! Thankful to have known her. Best wishes to the family.

  • Dave and Kay Turner

I have known Noella since 1974 and John since they first met. We lived in the same apartment, and opposite on the same floor, so we became very good friends. Noella also provided my wife and I with “comp” tickets to quite a few shows at the Queen E theatre when an audience was rather sparse.Their move to the Kerrisdale area was a bonus to us because we were then living just a few blocks away. We will always remember her calm demeanor, and by pure coincidence we has a lovely visit to them just a couple of weeks ago. Our sincere condolences to John and all the family.

  • Heather & Don McConnell

While I only met Noella a couple of times, I immediately knew she had the kindest heart. My husband (Don McConnell) has so many fond memories he has shared with me over the years. Noella had a very special place in his heart. Your family is in our hearts and prayers at this difficult time. Rest well Noella.

John, Val, Uncle Chuck and family…….
I still remember the lessons Noella taught me when she lived with us all those years ago….and the havoc the boys created when we visited her in Vancouver. Memories like these are so special. Mum has asked that I pass along her sympathies to you as well. Noella was something special, may your memories of her comfort you in the days ahead. Hugs to all.
