The happiest of people don’t always have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes their way.

It is with a very heavy heart that family and friends must say goodbye to the most independent, loving, giving and caring woman in our lives. Noreen passed away unexpectedly at VGH.

Predeceased by her husband George, Noreen was a wife, mother, grandmother, great and great great grandmother, and will be deeply missed by all those who ever got to know her. Born in Revelstoke, married in Victoria and settling in South Fraserview to raise her son and daughter, she was highly active in community football, family and friends, and was well known for her generosity, anything from a chocolate bar to say thanks for a job well done to you needing something and it would show up, giving people in need a hot meal and a place to sleep. If you needed it she was there even once wielding a knife to protect a neighbor, but she was no push over and would help to right any injustice. Relocating to Victoria didn’t slow her down; continually knitting gloves, socks and scarves to distribute. Every Christmas Eve with a van full of knitting, sandwiches and something hot to drink, they would drive downtown to give back to society. Noreen lived for and loved her family and friends, she had a full life and always said that every day was a bonus. We will miss you, Mom.

We would like to thank the staff of the Jeskan Aerie, where Noreen was a long time resident, for their caring and personal support in her needs and wants. We know she thought the world of you all. Thank you to Dr. Woodburn and staff for the care you gave for over 25 years.

Memorial Service to be held at SEQUOIA GARDENS MEMORIAL, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 2:00 pm.

Noreen wishes, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Royal Jubilee Cardiac Wing.

  • Lorna and Ron Hill

We would like to send our heartfelt condolences to all the family for the loss of Noreen. I (Lorna) have known Noreen since I was ten years old and we have remained friends for all these years. I shall always remember her as a dear friend and loving person. Our children take ahead with you were among the very lucky ones having worn many a pair of socks that Noreen knit for them and sent us over from Vancouver. I also have two baby dolls with outfits that Noreen knit…I shall treasure forever.
May your days ahead be comforted by the many memories she has left behind to take ahead with you.

  • Katie Rimmer

It is with a very saddened heart that I write these words. Myself, Katie and my co-workers at Jesken Aerie, Linda, Ailina, Eve, Matt, Isobel, Kyle, Shelly, Diane, Krystal, Heather, Doug, Michele and so many more, will greatly miss Noreen. Noreen was a beautiful person in every sense of the word. Always so kind and concerned for everyone, she was one of the bravest people I have ever met, and I think she taught us all a thing or two about life and what the important things really are. She loved all her family so much. You meant the world to her and I know she felt very loved herself.
Thank-you for the bars that you have given us, it was very touching, as I am sure you know she would give us them from time to time just to make us happy. I know in my family these will forever be known as ‘Noreen Bars.’ And I will smile each time I think of her.
We hope the very best for all of you during this difficult time.
