Mrs.Scott will always stand out in my mind as a woman on a beautiful yet often thankless mission. As a child I had a level of appreciation for her good humoured, no nonsense, hospitable and giving approach to life, but now as an adult her many tireless investments are that much more pronounced in my mind. What a beautiful Light she reflected!
May you be richly rewarded for the race you ran so well, Mrs. Scott. Generations to come will benefit from your faithfulness.
I was trying to sum up in one word what Olive meant to me, a difficult task for sure.
The one word I came up with was Mentor.
She mentored me in more ways than I could ever count.
She was there for me during some difficult times in my life. Any time I phoned her in a panic she never once told me she didn’t have time, even though I knew she was a very busy woman. I trusted her common sense advice and her confidentiality.
Her mentorship taught me to have confidence to host people in my home, confidence to teach, confidence to parent in ways I had never thought of, confidence to just be who I am and know that God loved me!
I will miss you my friend, but I thank God for all that you and Dennis have poured into this Deveau family.
We will be thinking of you all today as you celebrate Olive’s amazing life of service to her family, her friends, and to strangers. She will be deeply missed. With many happy memories and our love and prayers as you have embarked on a new chapter with a missing presence at your tables. Her silenced voice on earth is not stilled in heaven. Absent from her body but present with her precious Lord and friend.
My memories of Olive make me smile. She was always such a cheery, friendly and practical personality. Our family always felt my Dad had landed in a pretty peachy situation with Olive’s hospitality nearby! We will always be so grateful for her loving care of many of our family members. Our sympathies are with you all.
Olive’s love for the Lord shone through all she did. She had a wonderful gift of hospitality and was a great cook. She genuinely cared for others and had a heart for service. It was a delight knowing her! She touched many lives in a special way.
Dennis and family, we are sorry for your loss and pray for the Lord’s strength and peace for you all.
In His love, Rich and Mary Ann Mallett
My condolences to you and the rest of your family, Dennis. May God bless you, comfort you and give you strength. I pray you will experience God’s peace now and in the days to come.
