It is with great regret and heavy hearts we announce that Nat finally
lost his courageous battle with Heart Disease. The congestive heart
failure, and pneumonia finally led him to a peaceful end. He had
regularly contributed to research into heart disease for others. He
firmly believed “You must be the change you wish to see in the world and “be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle”.
He proudly held the banner for open heart surgery and survived two
triple by passes, 28 angioplasties, an atherectomy, and 11 stents, and
helped others facing the challenges of open heart surgeries passing on
coping strategies and hope.
He was brought up on a farm in Lumby with his three brothers. He moved to Armstrong where he met and married Bonnie in the 1950s, and then moved to Terrace in 1957, where he worked for the BC Forestry Service. He really enjoyed flying in the spotter plane looking for forest fires. He moved to Smithers and was then posted to Victoria in 1969 where he lived the remainder of his life. He was an active shop steward in the BCGEU for many years. He gathered many friends wherever he and his family lived.
He married Pauline in England in 1979 and in the last 31 years has been
a member of the Victoria Choral Society, The Royal Canadian Legion, and the Mayfair Lanes Bowling and Curling Club. He was also a member of the congregation of St. Peters, and the Anglican Cathedral and sang in the choir of St Marks. He was also a talented
photographer and his works were exhibited at the BC Festival of the Arts and Sooke Fine Arts. He was a father, husband, brother, son, uncle, cousin, grandfather, great grand father, friend and so much more. He was a lovely man who had an inspirational capacity for love and devotion to those he held dear, and he will be deeply missed by:

Trent, John and Jacqui. His grandchildren, Erik, Katrina, Michelle, Brittoni, Kohl, Jacob, Sjoni, Daniel, Kate, Alexander, Tristan, Brandon, Jordan, Amber, Breanna, Roxy, Jesse and Chloe, 13 great grand children, many nieces and nephews, and his brother Brian..
The family would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to all the
teams of doctors and nurses at the Royal Jubilee Hospital for their
tireless, thoughtful care, effort and expertise over the years. Without their dedication, and Nat’s fierce tenacity, energy and life force, we would not have had the pleasure of his wonderful company for the last 30 years.
The Memorial Service is to take place in Christ Church Cathedral in Victoria, Thursday 24th June 2010 at 4.00pm. Light refreshments will be served in the chapter room after the service.
