Patricia Denby

February 6, 1940 – June 1, 2010

Passed away peacefully at home in Victoria on the morning of June 1, 2010 with her husband Peter and daughters, Rachel and Rebecca by her side. Cremation will take place on Thursday, June 3rd at 9:00 a.m. in the presence of her immediate family. Whilst this is happening, please take a few moments to think about Pat.

In lieu of flowers or donations, we request that sometime in the next few months that you perform an act of random kindness. Such an act is the essence of Pat’s character and beliefs. We feel blessed to have so many good friends in Victoria and around the globe and would like to thank them for all the love and support they have shown our family. A special thank-you to Dr. Catherine Fitzgerald, Dr. Karen Campbell, the staff of the Canadian Cancer Society and the Palliative/Hospice Team for their kind care and support.
“Your positive and inspirational spirit will live on in all the lives you have so deeply touched.”

  1. Dorothy and I were saddened to hear about the passing on of Pat.Our paths from Bermuda did not pass too often in Victoria but their good friends in Northallerton Yorkshire that we knew and a life in Bermuda for several years did mean much interest…

I have great memories of working with Pat at South Park and Central Junior. She had a huge heart for the kids, especially those most downtrodden and needy. I loved her humour, valued her work ethic and am so lucky to have known her. Thinking of you all as you mourn her.

  6. I was so sad to hear of Pats passing. I was one of her ‘racquetball buddies’, and I remember the fun we used to have on the courts. I am so grateful for the time we spent together, both at the Y and at her house, sharing wine, goodies and the hot tubs with a few good friends. She was a truly remarkabe women. Her love of life and family was always evident. I am proud to be able to call Pat my friend and I am a better person for having known her.

  7. Dear Peter and family –

My thoughts are with you at this sad time. I remember Pat fondly at many Vic High occasions – Grads – when she would come to celebrate her special students from Central who meant so much to her, she really cared about them. Also when we worked on the Vic High Reunion – we really had a great time and I so enjoyed her sense of humour. I am so glad that I had those times with Pat to get to know what a great friend she was.

  8. Peter, over the years Pat (and you) have been there, pitching in–e.g. the replacement camera for Mahefu (in Zimbabwe!), lovely gatherings hosted in your home, shared experiences with blind people, supportive chats at school. One has in this life the privilege of knowing some extraordinary individuals; Pat is one of ours, as she was for MANY people. A role-model to try to emulate….YOU have a huge hole in your life. Perhaps it is a bit of consolation that we have joy at having known Pat and wish we could mitigate your sadness.
    Fondly
