1933 – 2013

Paul LaPointe, long time Esquimalt resident and proud Canadian Navy veteran, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 5, 2013, after a 2 ½ year battle with cancer. Paul’s great sense of humour and positive attitude was always with him. Born in St. Catharines, Ontario, January 28, 1933, he leaves his wife June; daughter, Michelle (Ray); son, Stephen (Karen), Rhonda (daughter-in-law); 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Paul was predeceased by his son, Richard, in 1999. The family would like to thank the many friends and caregivers that took such great care and interest in Paul.

A private family service was held on Friday, August 9, 2013. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the B.C. Cancer Agency. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Mr. Lapointe had a sporting goods store in the Esquimalt Plaza when I was young. My mom was a single mother, so Mr. Lapointe always helped her buy what I needed for hockey at reduced costs. He was my lacrosse coach in the summer, and I remember him as well as I remember anyone because he was kind, capable and compassionate. He has now been gone for some time, but the legacy of memories he left behind remains in the front of our minds.

We are sorry to hear about Paul’s passing and your big loss.
The TC booksale will not be the same. Paul was a very friendly co- worker, ready to tease and be teased.
We hope to see you next year.

Our sincere sympathy on the passing of Herb’s cousin Paul. Herb is the son of Helen Briggs (Samoleski). We lived near Claydon (SouthRidge School) where of course was the birthplace of Caroline.

  • Linda Stead/Frank Wolfe

We were so sorry to hear about Paul’s death. Although we didn’t know him well we remember his jest for life, his humour and relaxed attitude about everything. We are glad that he was able to enjoy Lindsay and Jeremy’s wedding and that he knew about the upcoming new additions. Thinking of you, June. Linda and Frank

Mr. Lapointe was always a good role model for me. He was a hard worker and led by example. If it wasn’t for his caring ways, I probably never would have got involved with sports. Mr. Lapointe was always a terrific neighbour to our family when I grew up. Everyday, I still look at the picture that was in the paper and think what a wonderful man he was.
Mrs. Lapointe, I hope you and your family are doing OK. You must be very proud of the life he lived. His soul is now in a peaceful place.

  • Brenda, Scott and Aiden LaPointe

Sending our deepest sympathy to June and family. We didn’t have a lot of time to spend with Uncle Paul but know that the time spent was always thought of fondly. Hoping you all find peace in knowing what a wonderful man he was. Love, Brenda Scott and Aiden LaPointe
