It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Husband/Pap/Stepfather/Opa, Paul Jan Ruurd Roos on April 6, 2026.
Paul of Dutch/German descent was born in Lambrecht, Germany on October 8th, 1930. He was raised in the Dutch East Indies and The Netherlands along with his older brother Jurre. It was in The Netherlands where he earned his degree as a ships engineer. After a few years at sea he immigrated to Canada, settling in Victoria, B.C. Here he worked at B.C. Forest Products as a Millwright and developed his love for the outdoors.
He was deeply loved and will be missed by his wife of 40 years, Sophia, his three sons, Rick (Diana), Wayne (Cindy), Anthony (Patty) and his stepdaughters, Michele (Martin), Hester (Joe) and Andrea (Steve), son-in-law Tom (Wendy) as well as 17 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A life well lived and full of never-ending love.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the Sequoia Gardens at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC on Wednesday, July 8th, 2026 at 10:00 am.

Rees Moerman Paul Roos was a fully decent and noble man. He was always deferential and interesting to engage with. Paul had many extraordinary experiences in his long and variegated life … having greatly suffered as a young man in the World War Two Japanese internment camp of the Dutch Expatriates in Indonesia, along with his older Brother, Jurre (Deceased). Despite many such struggles he created a new and successful life in Canada, with a truly great extended family. He will certainly be missed by those who lived and deeply loved him.

Patty and Anthony Roos family He will be truly missed ❤️ Pap was a wonderful Father in law who loved his family dearly. We will miss your Hot coffee and Speculaas cookies. We will cherish the memories of your smile and laughter about a good joke. The fishing derby’s we went to with BCFP and you welcoming me into your family like your own daughter.
We loved to see your face light up when we visited as a family. Always so interested in our boys wins whether it was school / Sports or their career choices. We really loved it when we had family gatherings with good food everyone indulging in. So many great memories to last us a life time. Miss you pap! Until we meet again ❤️

Mary Ann Maruca-Roos My deepest condolences to his family, particularly my Tante Fietje (my mother’s sister) and his three sons and families. Oom Paul was my beloved uncle and brother to my father (Jurre) who I spent many good times with over the course of his lifetime. From fishing and camping when his sons and my sisters and brother were youngsters, to many cruises with him and Tante Fietje with Holland America. If you couldn’t find him, you just needed to head up to the crows nest. He was always there. I wish you many more happy sailings scouting from your crows nest Oom Paul. I’ll love you forever.
Always enjoyed conversations with Paul at the property on West Saanich. Many party’s and bbqs over the years. Had great stories and showed interest in others. My condolences to the family.
