Peter passed away after a lengthy illness on December 26, 2024, surrounded by friends and family.
He had an interesting and varied life, lived very much on this own terms. He practiced law in Victoria for approximately 20 years, taught English in Japan for several years and for the last years of his life worked as an English language editor and author in China. He was a man of great compassion. He never met a stranger, only friends. He had a lively intellect and a passion for the written word, which he loved to discuss with anyone who would listen.
He is survived by his sister Karen, several cousins in Canada and the United States and many, many friends in Victoria and China. He will be missed.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Murphy C My dear friend, Ocean Cottage (Peter), had a deep compassion for life and this world. He possessed many remarkable qualities that have shaped my own attitude toward life. He dreamt with the pure heart of a child and loved helping others. I remember his generous donations to the association for the disabled in China. I’m truly grateful for his friendship, and his spirit will continue to live on. His kindness, laughter, and wisdom will forever stay with me.
Thank you, Peter. Enjoy your new journey.
“Till we meet again.”
Blessings for the Nordlinger family.

Karen Beattie One of my most cherished memories of Leo was on the night that we (my husband Patrick) brought home our baby daughter Marie Doreen Sue Ping Yuen Beattie. It was a dark, rainy evening and who should be driving past our place, but Leo! We invited him into our place and we still have a photo of the two happy men with this darling little baby. Patrick will be sharing many, many special stories about his friendship with Leo in the years to come!
My condolences to Karen and the family.

Andy Morris Farewell my friend. May your soul rest in peace free of the curse imposed by the implications of cancer.
Peter (aka Leo and Lee) was a good man. I think that’s the best thing to hope for when you’re gone, after all the words and writings and resumes are read, to just say someone was a good man.
My condolences to Karen and Leo’s many friends.

Patrick Skillings Blessings for Karen and the Nordlinger family.
We will all miss Peter’s lovely nature.
May he rest in peace.
It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my dear friend, Peter. My heartfelt condolences go out to Peter’s sister Karen, family, and all who called him a friend, partner, or mentor. Peter was a humble, kind, and caring individual whose presence enriched the lives of everyone he met. His love for literature was reflected in all that he did, and he possessed an extraordinary talent for penmanship.
Peter’s passion for learning and teaching was evident in every part of his life, and he shared his knowledge generously as a lawyer, teacher, business owner, coach and author. He was deeply spiritual and compassionate person who always made others feel valued. Peter’s impact on all of us is immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed.
May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
