Peter Lee Nordlinger

Peter passed away after a lengthy illness on December 26, 2024, surrounded by friends and family.

He had an interesting and varied life, lived very much on this own terms. He practiced law in Victoria for approximately 20 years, taught English in Japan for several years and for the last years of his life worked as an English language editor and author in China. He was a man of great compassion. He never met a stranger, only friends. He had a lively intellect and a passion for the written word, which he loved to discuss with anyone who would listen.

He is survived by his sister Karen, several cousins in Canada and the United States and many, many friends in Victoria and China. He will be missed.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

  1. Dear Karen Faye
I only learned today of Peter’s suffering and passing. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to you and those closest to him. What a guy

In late 70’s, when finishing up a year of English classes I met your brother Peter. He had recently completed his Masters and was working in the English department at the university. I was from the prairies (“more earthy and grounded” Peter, the seeker, said.)! Meanwhile I saw him as ethereal, enigmatic, intellectual , and curious He had a child-like innocence despite his other worldliness. He was intriguing.

Peter introduced me to his interest in Eastern religions, yoga, the ouigi board, and running…

I am happy to have met him . Glad that he remained true to himself and continued his path of discovery. Today I imagine him dancing with the stars. He is at home. I am grateful for the times and gifts we shared. Faye Robinson

  2. It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my dear friend, Peter. My heartfelt condolences go out to Peter’s sister Karen, family, and all who called him a friend, partner, or mentor. Peter was a humble, kind, and caring individual whose presence enriched the lives of everyone he met. His love for literature was reflected in all that he did, and he possessed an extraordinary talent for penmanship.

Peter’s passion for learning and teaching was evident in every part of his life, and he shared his knowledge generously as a lawyer, teacher, business owner, coach and author. He was deeply spiritual and compassionate person who always made others feel valued. Peter’s impact on all of us is immeasurable, and he will be deeply missed.

May his memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace.
