July 18, 1922 – May 11, 2013

Phyllis Snobelen, beloved mother, nana and great-grandmother passed away gracefully at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. She is predeceased by her loving husband, Don; granddaughter, Fawn; sister, Lois and brother, John. Phyllis is survived by her brother, Charlie; children, Philip (Pam), Clyde (Evelyn), Jean (Jim), Heather and Sylvia. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Phyllis received the loving care of live-in caregivers since Don’s death in 2003. The family thanks these wonderful women: Heather Olsen, Sylvia Button, Pauline Minter, Josephine Ballowe and Heather Goulet who enabled Phyllis to remain in her own home until last month. Don and Phyllis ran a nursery business for more than 50 years, Phyllis sharing with Don the joy, worries and hard work of the greenhouses. Phyllis was a strong, intelligent and generous woman who shared her gifts freely with everyone. A confidant of both the young and the aged, her wise counsel provided hope and direction to many through their dark times. She delighted us all with her amazing meals and baked goods especially her pies and potato salad. Phyllis gave her family a wonderful example of patience, reason, love, commitment and hard work. She was a daily Bible reader, whose faith was grounded in the hope of resurrection from her grave and the gift of life eternal at the coming of Jesus Christ, her Lord. May he soon come! Phyllis continued active with the Saanich Peninsula Christadelphians until prevented by failing health.

Interment will take place at 12 noon, Wednesday, May 15, 2013 at Hatley Memorial, followed at 2:00 pm by a service and celebration at the Saanich Peninsula Christadelphian Hall, 6th Street in Sidney. Condolences for the family may be offered below.

  • Pam and Bev Highton

Pam and I were very sorry to learn of the passing of Phyllis. She was a very special Lady. The extended Snobelen family played a very important and influential role in the Highton families life when we moved to Victoria from England in 1952.
We, that is my Mother Joan and I, were recalling yesterday the many kindnesses and hospitality that the Snobelen family extended to us. We fondly remember Phylis’s open hearted and loving approach to life and join with many others in sending to the Family our heart felt and sincere condolenses.
