The heavens will never be the same as Phyl Glover lightens the skies with her indomitable spirit and style! Our precious mom, Phyllis Mary Glover (nee Goulding), passed away on October 21st, 2015. For over 90 years she inspired laughter and an infectious love of life. Up for any adventure or new project, her joie de vivre, humour and brilliant smile brightened everyone’s day right to the end.
Her love of sports that lasted a lifetime began in Winnipeg. A champion badminton and tennis player and a force on the slopes, she spent her summers at Granite Lake swimming, water skiing and making every social event an occasion!
After a stint at CBC Radio, she married Jack Glover, who whisked her away to the west coast where she started her family. Throughout her lifetime, she was involved with a variety of volunteer organizations. (Junior League, Santa’s Anonymous, Art Gallery and her beloved Hospice Boutique).
She was blessed with limitless energy and was constantly on the go with renos, sewing up a storm, her many sports, gardening, travel and social events. For over fifty years the Victoria Golf Club was a haven of friendship, sport, leadership and unforgettable theatrical performances. Her life force was so contagious, she would party or perform at the drop of a hat. Her last trademark performance of “Hello Dolly” as Carol Channing, was at age 85 in her pink gown and feather boa.
Phyl wanted to spend her 90th birthday in Las Vegas with her family. Her ten grandchildren instantly organized an event that they will never forget. Our own version of “Hello Dolly” was ecstatically applauded by an audience of one.
She inspired us all: Sally Glover and Stuart Nemtin and their kids Ben and Emma, Ken and Lorraine Glover and their kids Breanne, Dana, Karley and Michael, and Ginny Glover and David Stuart and their kids Maggie, Simon, Gareth and Bronwyn.
We all loved you so much Mumsie, Granny, Phyl, Gryllis and “Dolly”. Your light allowed everyone around you to shine more brightly. We will keep your smile and spirit in our hearts forever.
Her service will be held at St. George’s Church in Cadboro Bay, Friday Nov. 6 at 11 a.m.
Donations may be made in Phyl’s name to the Refugee Fund at St. George’s Church in Cadboro Bay.
We want to thank Dr. David Bell, her long time family doctor and Dr. Otto and the staff at the Jubilee Hospital for all their tender loving care.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.
