Born in Breskens, Netherlands and immigrated to Canada in 1954.

Peter leaves a legacy of love in his family’s memories.

“The seas, the seas are calling me,

they tempt me with their song,

they want me to set sail again,

to the place where I belong.

But the sweetness of their wind-borne calls,

tear my soul apart,

for I must leave my loves again,

who dwell within my heart.

So the time has come, for me to go,

and leave the golden shore,

To face the wind and ride the waves,

until I am no more.”

    Dear family
I am so sorry to hear about Opa’s passing.

My best memories of Opa are of his story telling. I suspect that his best stories got better with age.
Or maybe I am just remembering them all to be unbelievably exciting.
I wonder if he really did get drunk, buy a pig, tell all his kids about their new pet, then serve it up for breakfast? Or was he just never afraid of letting the truth get in the way of a good story?

Thank you for sharing his poem.

I am so glad my dad got to visit with him, and all of you, not long before Opa’s passing.
I know this is very difficult for him. As I’m sure it is for all of you.

Thank you Susan for sending updates of his final days.

    Sending love.

    Sympathies to my dear cousins and Aunt Evelyn;
My heart is sad that I will never see my uncle again.
To feel his hug so sweet, his quiet love was always home to me.
Such a delightful story teller and a laugh that could launch a thousand ships…
Rest in peace my dear sweet Uncle Piet
