October 22, 1939 – November 29, 2012
Richard was born in Vancouver, British Columbia and passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC. He joins his parents, Richard and Edna (nee Clever); also his sisters, Colleen and Shirley. Richard is survived by his three children, Donald, Karen (Brad Greenlaw) and Christopher (Binder). He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Bryan, Amandy, Shaun, Natasha, Krystine, Tyson, Brittany and Amber and six great-grandchildren, Adriel, Quinten, Niekolas, Annastasia, Devin and Portcia and his best friend, Harry Lutz, who was there to the very end. Rick was a talented baseball player and athlete in track and field events, setting several high school records during the late 1950s in shot-put, discus and the 100 yard dash. He was an all-star baseball player and excelled as a pitcher and batter. Rick worked for Canada Post for thirty-five years. He was known for his perpetual sense of humour and for being a dedicated mail carrier who was recognized for his integrity on the job and commitment as a father. A special thank you goes out to the staff at Mount St. Mary’s Hospital as well as to Dr. Jean Maskey and all the staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital who took special care in looking after Rick.
A Celebration of Rick’s life will be held in McCall Bros. Floral Chapel, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, in Victoria on Friday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m with a reception to follow in McCall’s Family Centre. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the SPCA – a charity that Rick supported for many years. Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Timothy Van Alstine I worked with Ricky at Canada Post for over 25 years, and I’ll always remember his dry sense of humour and unique way of viewing the world. After his retirement I would run into him in Cook St. Village and never ceased to enjoyed our chats. I’ll miss him.
Rick was a nice person…always pleasant, never difficult.
I remember him fondly.
I worked as a registration clerk at Canada Post so had occasion
to be face-to-face with Rick twice daily. He was always affable.
