It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Rick on April 24, 2021. He is survived by his mother, Lorna, brother, Rob (Teresa), sister, Sara, of Vancouver, B.C., along with loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many old and newly made friends. Rick was predeceased by his father, Gordon Rabey.
At an early age, Rick desired to follow in his father’s footsteps and thus became a journeyman ironworker. He was the person many of us looked to if we needed a fence repaired, a roof cleaned, a room painted or holes dug for rhododendrons. He was the quintessential “Jack of all Trades.” Rick was not a stranger to the kitchen…never afraid to roll up his sleeves and start cooking. He would often regale us of his belly-buster spaghetti or pork loin roast dinners that he would cook for his Mom.
He was a fervent follower of NASCAR racing from his teenage years to adulthood. Rick was a lover of animals and their response to him was enviable. Above all, Rick was a passionate and caring individual, one who would often put friends before himself. He volunteered at the Mustard Seed on a weekly basis. An infectious smile and passion for fun was ever present when you spent time with Rick.
Rick leaves behind family and friends who will miss him profoundly. We take comfort in knowing he is reunited with family and friends who also left us too soon. Say his name often and his memory will remain strong.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Mustard Seed https://mustardseed.ca
A Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held when COVID restrictions allow. Interment at Royal Oak Burial Park.
Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Ricky you were the best cousin I could have asked for growing up. You always included me as a kid even though I was 4 years younger. I really wish we had a chance to connect over the years. I am deeply saddened by this and will cherish our childhood memories forever. I love you cousin.

Hey Ricky, you left a huge hole in many peoples lives for sure. I know that Sid the kids and I will treasure all the times we shared. I look forward to sharing the stories and reminiscing with friends and loved ones when allowed. You and your contagious smile will live on in our stories and hearts. We LOVE you!
Dear Rick, you will surely be missed by everyone you shined your smiling light upon and also by the neighbourhood birds whom you showered with your kind and delightful generosities. Thank you for the moments you shared with me. You were always there at times I needed a friend even though I never always realized, you always knew; and would approach people in need with a most sincere compassion. You were one of those rare gems that will sparkle in people’s minds forever and ever. Rest easy.
We at The Scotsman got to know Rick when he moved here and quickly became one of our better tenants. He was considerate and very helpful, he even helped take care of the grounds. He created a pleasant atmosphere by taking care of the birds in the area, I’m pretty sure they followed him around! It was a pleasure to get to know Rick and he will be missed.
Heartfelt thoughts are with the loving supportive family of Rick Rabey.
We will cherish all the good memories, he was a good guy and liked by everybody that knew him. We have great memories of Rick and his brother Rob playing when they were small children. We had some fun times with the kids, Lorna and Auntie Maureen.
My Condolences to Rick’s Family and Friends. I have to say you have posted a great picture of Rick .. It has been a really long time since I had seen Rick …but the picture reminded me of his big smile and good nature.
Condolences to the Rabey family.
