R.I.P Grandpa, still in my heart and mind to this day 11/05/22. I remember the time I got to spend with you, and the days the family would gather for holidays (not quite the same without you might I add). I will forever remember the days my sister and I would spend on the wharf coming to get sardines from the fish shop to feed and teach new tricks two those two seals that lived by the wharf. I look forwards to the day I can tell my kids about you grandpa, rest easy I hope you and sprig are hunting pheasant side by side like no tomorrow up there. Miss you grandpa.

  • John & Lise Skalos

Our condolences to you Huguette, your children, grandchildren and Donald. Remember Rick as a happy go lucky guy in Timmins in the mid 50’s. Having moved to Nanaimo two years ago and having a phone conversation a year ago about catching up about life since we last seen each other and reminising about our mutual friend Bob Merritt I learned a valuable lesson. Never put off anything that can be done right away. I will miss that anticipated meeting with Rick for now but hopefully we will get together with the big guy upstairs. Our prayers are with you all.

  • Joy Bretz

Dear ‘Yogi’, Leeanne, William, Richard, and Dwayne,

Bob and I very sorry to hear about Rick’s death. Rick was a great person—fun and kind-hearted—and we feel we were fortunate to have known him.

I can ‘see’ Rick —leaning up against the counter in your Fish Shop, strolling down the wharf, stopping to chat with someone on a boat — always smiling. (In fact, I can see him grinning at me as I write this!) We always liked Rick, and always enjoyed talking to him.

Yogi — we think of you and your family often. (In fact, we bought some prawns from Thrifty’s just the other day and we were lamenting the ‘good ol’ days’ — when you and Rick gave us such a good deal on prawns!) Like you, we, too, have grandchildren now, and we hope, in the days to come, they will prove a comfort to you.

Leeanne — growing up, you were always such a nice girl. I’m sure your Dad was proud of you.

William — you were always *special* to us. On the rare occasion we’ve seen you since moving away from the wharf, we could tell you grew to be a wonderful man and father — just like your Dad.

Richard — to us, you were always like your Dad, even as a boy! (I think because of your friendly grin!)

Dwayne — you were the cutest kid! Being the youngest, you may not remember us, but we remember you! And we’re certain your Dad would be proud of you too!

Our hearts go out — to ALL of you.

    Joy Bretz & Bob Coltart

  • Adrienne Cuthill

All I can say is that I always loved going down to Fisherman’s Wharf, and once and awhile catching up with Rick and what was going on with whatever boat he had bought and was renovating. I last saw him last Sept and got to introduce my fiancee to him, to which he remarked ” Are you crazy marrying this girl” and as usual we had a good chat. He will be greatly missed.
To Willy and Family there are never the right words to express the loss of a family member, so know that you will be in my heart.
    Adrienne Cuthill
