After a full and successful life, Dick passed away on August 27, 2017, at the age of 94. He was a man of innovation, diligence and determination. Dick’s accomplishments were many, but he was most proud of his athletic endeavours, his UBC degree in Engineering (and subsequent standing as a Professional Engineer) and his creation and development of Mount Matheson Estates.
Dick was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Mary (2004), his granddaughter, Courtenay Taaffe (2005) and his daughter, Heather Robbins (2015). Left to remember and share his stories are daughters Dianne Taaffe (Mike) and Debbie Weilbacher (Chris), grandchildren Scott Robbins (Katie), Alicia Goluza (Frank), Kelli McLeod (Morgan), Matt, Luke and Gracie Weilbacher and nine great grandchildren.
With fondness and gratitude, Dick’s “old” Sooke memories, experiences and friendships were never forgotten.
A private service will be held by the family.
Condolences may be offered to his family below.

Martin Robbins Dick and I knew each other for about 47 years and developed a very close relationship. I had the privilege of working with Dick for many years on his Mount Matheson Estates project. Those were challenging years as we worked towards Dick’s vision for Mount Matheson. Dick was a honest, forthright, ingenious individual, a visionary, who worked hard to make Mount Matheson a successful development. Dick had a curious, practical approach to life. My wife and I also enjoyed many great times with Dick and Mary.
Thank you, Dick and Mary, for all those great conversations. I’ve got such great memories, Dick, and they will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Pat McBeth Dianne and family, am so sorry to hear of your dad’s passing. I know the last few years have not been the best for him but it is always very hard to say goodbye. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. Sincerely,
There will be many people who will be missing Dick and we will be on that list. While our paths didn’t cross very often – particularly lately – he was a fine and respected friend. Another of Sooke’s old-timers and a great guy; gone but not forgotten.
Our sincere condolences to all of you.
