PREUSCHE, Rita (nee Heidinger) – August 21, 1924 to August 30, 2013 – It is with sadness that our family wishes to announce that our Mother passed away suddenly but peacefully in the early morning hours of August 30, 2013 at Victoria General Hospital. Rita was born in a close knit family in Lampman, Saskatchewan and moved to Regina in the 1940’s where she married her husband Paul Preusche and raised her family until relocating to Victoria in 2004. She is pre-deceased by her parents Henry and Mathilda Heidinger, husband Paul in 1967, brother Clement Heidinger in 1985, sister Eleanor Hayes in 2004 and her grand-daughter Tammy Preusche in 2009. She is survived by two brothers: William Heidinger and Edward Heidinger (Doris) and three sons: Murray, Bill (Theresa) and Donald (Leslie), grandchildren: Tara (Craig), Sheldon, Christopher, Monique (Phil), eight great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, many nieces and nephews and friends.

Rita retired from the Province of Saskatchewan in 1994 after over 20 years of service and enjoyed decorating wedding cakes as a hobby. Rita loved to travel and spent many years travelling with her husband and young family and parents throughout the U.S. and Canada and later in life, taking cruises with her youngest son to Australia, Indonesia, the Panama Canal, Caribbean and Mexico. She also loved to knit and create seasonal oxygen tank covers. The family would like to send a special thank you to the emergency staff, doctors and nurses at the Victoria General Hospital for being with her during her last hours and to Dr. Neil Rockerbie for his care and support over the last nine years. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Lung Association at www.lung.ca would be gratefully received.

A Celebration of Rita’s Life will be held in the Chapel at The Victorian at McKenzie retirement home (3rd Floor – 4000 Douglas Street, Victoria, BC) on Friday, September 13, 2013 at 1 p.m. followed by Reception at 2 p.m.
