It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our dear Bob.  Beloved brother, cousin, friend and uncle.   Second child born to parents Bernice May Wight (Nee Wardell) and Cecil Roy Wight in Victoria.

Predeceased by parents Bernice and Cecil; sister Jeanette; brother in law Bob Wilkins; nephew Graham Wight; Aunts Jo, Gladys, Margaret, Dorothy; Uncle Ray, and cousins Marlene, Rhona Bendl and George Longman.

Survived by brother Bruce Wight (Jean); nephews Mike (Miki), Greg (Leslie), Jeff (Kim) Wilkins, Morgan Wight; nieces Trina (Jim), Shelly (Wes), Teresa, Christine (Wallace), Wendy Wilkins (Dave); cousins Ron (Muriam), Ken (Marilyn) Tomlinson, Georgina (Ken) McGavin , Bill (Trudene) Longman, Marlene Longman, Stan Kelly, Margo (Peter) Lee and all their families, plus great nieces and nephews Nathan, Kyle, Alexandra, Caittlyn, Emily, Cole, Autumn, Mason, Charlotte and Miko.

Bob was born and raised in Oak Bay with his siblings, fondly reminiscing in all his years about his time in Oak Bay including living in a house on Monterey Avenue where there was plenty of backyard plays and tomfoolery with his siblings, cousins, friends and kids that his parents fostered.  He attended all schools in Oak Bay and excelled at mathamatics.  He started university after graduating high school but left shortly after to start a bank position.  Sometime after, he then worked for CP rail and finally settled into 2 janitor positions and the longtime crossing guard for Campus View elementary school in the 80’s and 90’s.  He had a love of most sports.  Watching football and baseball but his true love was Golf.

‘Uncle Bob’ as many called him, didn’t have any children of his own or get married.  He led a different life than most.  He was a very reserved, quiet man who enjoyed many things including family time. He took care of his aging mother as well as he could, all her years long and he was a figure in our households that cannot be forgotten. One will never forget his constant singing or humming to old music or records nor comments about tv shows, soaps, movies, crosswords, sports shows, books, etc.  The roast beef dinners with chocolate mousse pie he helped prepare at grandma’s house,  BBQ’s at Bruce and Jean’s place, dinner at Jeanette’s, any cousin visits, the Oscars, Emmys, Dancing with the stars, Miss Universe, Elvis movies, the Brat Pack anything, old westerns, ……I could go on and on.  It seems so many occasions or just visits, Bob was happily there.

Bob was loved by all and will be greatly missed.

In memory of Bob, please donate to the Lung Association of BC.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

I remember cousin Bob from the days when he lived on Monteray in Oak Bay. My brother Bill and I came over from the mainland to spend a few weeks every summer in our youth. It was something we really looked forward to and always felt so loved by all the family in Victoria. Bob was always so kind to us. He’d let us try his putter in the back yard while eating delicious “organic” reads errors growing along the fence in the back yard. He was always generous with his time and showed us with his laughter how much he enjoyed us. He would come home from his job as bus boy at the Empress and hand out quarters for my brother and I and off we went to the corner store to buy candy. We had so many good times with Bob, Brucie and Jeanette and Aunt Bernice and the whole Victoria clan. Theses are memories we shall treasure forever. My sincere condolences to Wendy and all the family.

Bob was a quiet and reserved man. However when I went over to visit with my Sister (Jean) and Brother in law (Bruce) and their 6 kids, Bob always enjoyed playing games with us and telling us stories. He will be sadly missed and never forgotten. My condolences to his family members.

Wendy, our deepest condolences to you and all the Family. You’ve done a great job encapsulating Uncle Bob. Margo and myself will never forget as very young children, spending many summers in Victoria. It was like an ‘explosion’ of family, Grandma, Aunts, Uncles & Cousins. Margo’s letter of condolence brought up some very fond memories of Bob and our time in Victoria. I’m going to add one from the other side of Georgia Straight. In the late ’50’s or early ’60’s Bob came to Vancouver to audition for the one and only Ted Mack Amateur Hour as a singer, or should I say ‘Crooner!’ Bob loved to sing. He was not selected for the show, but good on him to try!
Love and hugs to all the family, Bill & Trudene
