Bob passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ after lengthy declining health. He was a much-loved husband and father, survived by his devoted wife of nearly 62 years, Hilda, his children Greg and Kerri (Ross) Brain.
Born in St. Boniface MB, he grew up in many towns and settled in Victoria as a teenager. He was proficient at playing and teaching the piano accordion. He was well known in the automotive field and later had a household painting business. Bob loved younger people and often reminisced of many happy times.
Many thanks to Dr. Yip, VIHA nurses and caregivers and RJH staff for their compassionate care to Bob over the last years.
A Private Graveside Service to be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Camp Qwanoes, Crofton, BC – www.qwanoes.ca/ or Central Baptist Church, Victoria, BC – www.centralbaptistchurch.ca/

Dear Hilda, Greg, Kerri and Ross:
May God’s loving arms surround you and give you comfort and peace as you mourn the loss of your dear husband and father.
What a privilege to have known this wonderful man who walked through life trusting in his Lord and Saviour, and to witness his love for Hilda, Greg, Kerri and Ross. We were so blessed to share God’s word together in his Bible Study group, and enjoyed our visits together listening to his life’s stories always told with a smile and a “twinkle in his eye”.
We were so honoured to call him our friend. We will miss him.
Dear Hilda, Greg, Kerri, and Ross,
We are sorry to be so late hearing and responding to news of Bob’s passing to be with his Lord. Bob was always so proud of and loyal to his family, and willing to serve God any way he could. We will miss him. May God comfort you in your loss and bless you.
John 16:22 – So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.
We are praying that you feel God’s presence in these days of grieving. What comfort to remember those words as quoted above. Hilda,Greg and Ross you were all amazing in your support of Bob.
God is our refuge and strength in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1
I am thankful that my mom was married for almost 62 years to my dad!
Wow….that is incredible and thankful to God!
The last ten years have been really hard to watch as he struggled.
She was a devoted wife and supporter of Dad. Thanks mom!
I loved my dad and miss him. I am glad that he is in Heaven with Jesus and no more pain!

Have a good time with Jesus and rest well dad…and see you later.
So here’s what I’ve learned through it all:
Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you. Psalm 55:22

Sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. He taught me accordion lessons many years ago (would you believe in the mid 1950’s) and I was friends with him and his family for many years. It was always fun to get together with Bob. He had a great sense of humour. I often wondered if he kept his vintage Volkswagen and the old Desoto Sportsman. I was thinking of that on Saturday while I was delivering papers. Then when I got home and started to read the paper, I saw his obituary. It felt very strange as I had not seen Bob for over 50 years. Sleep peacefully, Bob. I appreciated your friendship very much.
Hilda and Family,
Thanks to Bob Cherneff for sending me a copy of the announcement from the newspaper. This would be a difficult time of adjustment for all of you, but I am glad that Bob’s suffering is over at last. I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.
