Passed away peacefully in Victoria, BC on July 21, 2012. Born on May 11, 1927, in Fort William, Ontario. Survived by his wife, Thelma, of 55 years; children, Sheila, Stephen and Laura and grandchildren, Aidan, Ethan and Brittany. Pat’s working career has been in construction and maintenance of public works, highways, bridges, sewers and potable water installations. As a young man, Pat worked for six years as highway location surveyor in Northern Ontario. Living in tents, tolerating winter cold and black flies, rising to Supervisor of Surveys and Construction.

In 1956, with construction of the Trans Canada Highway through the mountains of Alberta and British Columbia, he was Supervisor of Construction of Highways between Banff and Lake Louise and then on to Rogers Pass Construction of the Trans Canada Highway.

In 1962, Pat and his family moved to Whitehorse, Yukon and while there, he supervised highway construction town sites and utilities for Department of Public Works. Pat and his family loved their eleven years in the Yukon, meeting friendly people and participating in community activities.

In 1973, Pat and his family moved to Victoria, BC and he became General Works Superintendent for Saanich Municipality.

In 1990, Pat participated in Africa 2000 – the municipal response to problems in Malawi, Central Africa. Pat went to Zomba, Malawi several times over the years from 1989 to 1995, solving problems there with financial help from Canada and Saanich. Roads, construction of market facilities, sewer systems, wells, street lighting. He enjoyed his time there bringing his expertise and training the local workers in maintenance of their City. Pat retired in August 1991.

    What a wonderful couple Pat and Tim (Thelma) were to a lonely young British engineer hired to work at DPW under Pat Kennedy He was inspirational to this young engineer who has never forgotten the kindness shown by Pat and his wife Tim These were and are great people who I am proud to have known in my younger formative years.
