My Mother did more justice than I could with her words above. I always came home and shared with her and am so grateful I could. Roberta will always remain in my mind the true essence of a primary educator. She laughed and danced and sang her heart out. And she was firm. She ensured the children were learning and laughing the entire time she had them in her room and in her arms. I remember thinking – I don’t know if I can do this. And suddenly I was doing it with her. I’ve never turned back. As my mom mentioned, K/1 has always been a passion, and that is due to Roberta’s love and example. May all of us that work with our littlest ones remember the joy, and put a little extra in (even when it’s exhausting) for the lovely Roberta. RIP my friend. xo TZ

What a lovely picture of Roberta! Our daughter is now a much loved Principal in West Vancouver. Her favourite age group has always been Kindergarten/grade 1. I think it is in large part because of Roberta. Part of her practicum was in having the luck and privilege to experience Roberta’s joy, expertise and unique bond that she had with her students. She was eclectic, vibrant and loving. She was a career girl, a role model, and embraced life with all its ups and downs-and will always be remembered by her students, colleagues and friends.

I will always remember Roberta’s wonderful energy and flare for life. Her bright yellow classroom, piano playing and laughter are a great memory of being in her kindergarten class many years ago. I was so lucky to have her as a kindergarten teacher and close family friend for many years. May she rest in peace. Stacey Lund (McCall)

Roberta was kindergarten teacher to both of my children at Keating Elementary. They loved her colourful and flamboyant clothing and jewellery, her energetic piano playing and her lively spirit and energy. They couldn’t have had a better start to their school years. Her memory will live on through many children who were exposed to her zest for life.

Dearest Roberta, I remember the fun we had and I remember laughing and talking with you every night before we went to sleep. You will always remain in my heart. Rest in peace lovey. I miss you.

I worked with Roberta at Keating Elementary for many years. The last 3 years of her career had us teaching kindergarten together. I often think of her advice to me which was typically based on astrology…she’d say to me “it’s because you’re a Virgo…you’re a typical Virgo!”. She was such a character and I appreciated her no nonsense way. The world became a little less bright this week. Rest In Peace Bert!
