Rod passed away on Tuesday, September 29, 2021. He was predeceased by his father, Roderick (Rory) in 1936, his brother, Neil in 1949, and his mother, Phoebe, in 1972. He is survived by his brother, Ian his wife Fran and family. Also cousins in Central Saanich, Comox, Mission, Maple Ridge, in the United Kingdom, Australia and New Zealand.

Rod grew up in Vancouver and West Vancouver, attending Pauline Johnson School and West Vancouver High School. He graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelors in arts and Social Work. In 1963, he was posted to Victoria with the Community Corrections Branch of the Ministry of Attorney General as a Probation Officer, having been, previously a Social Worker in Grand Forks, Brannan Lake School in Nanaimo and at New Haven Borstal in Burnaby.

Rod retired in January of 1993 and then began a series of appointments with the United Nations to Somalia, Indonesia, East Timor and with Canadem in the Ukraine. He was awarded the Canadian Peacekeeping Services Medal for his work in Somalia.

Rod had a strong interest in Genealogy and in travel, having been to some sixty countries.

A Service will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive, on Thursday, October 21, 2021 at 2:00 pm. Due to COVID, we request that all attendees be fully vaccinated and wear a mask. Internment will be in his brother’s grave at the Masonic Cemetery in Burnaby, BC. In memory of Rod, donations would be appreciated to Operations Eyesight Universal, 4 Parkdale Crescent NW, Calgary, Alberta, T2N 3T8.

    Rod was a hero of mine. My youngest son Braddock shares his middle name as a tribute to this gentleman. I will cherish the many coffee meetings we had together where we talked to politics, traveling, and current events. He was one of my most favorite people in this world, and he will be missed.
