It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rodney Fredrick Metters, better known as Fred, from complications of COPD and cancer. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Shirley; his daughters, Karen (Steve) and Christina (Martin); and three grandchildren, Allora, Cale, and Corben.

Fred was an ardent fisherman and hunter, and after 33 years in the Victoria Fire Department, spent many long hours in his garden.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date.

Condolences may be offered to the family below.

Shirley and family, we just found out recently from Sharon that Fred had passed away. We haven’t seen either of you for years but we remember you both as being lovely people and we knew that Fred was a very dedicated husband, Father and Fireman. Unfortunately, many Firemen end up with COPD. We extend our condolences to all of you and pray that your memories will help sustain you through the difficult times ahead. Sincerely, Beth and Tom Pengelly

Shirley and Family, My family and I have wonderful memories of our times spent together with you all through the early years. We valued you all as good friends. I know that Fred was well liked, a man of his word and if you were his friend you counted yourself lucky. I know he will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Mike said he was his favourite fishing friend, as he knew all the great places to catch fish and enjoyed trips with Fred to special places and always came home with a catch.
May all your special and wonderful memories surround you in love as you go forward.
