Passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 9, 2011 in Victoria, BC at the age of 80 years. Ruth will be greatly missed by her three children, Russ (Linda), Jim (Terri) and Maureen (Jim Earl); her six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her brother, Gus in 1998 and Chuck, her loving husband of 49 years in 2000. Ruth had a sweet disposition all her life. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and, in years past, a keen enthusiast of garage sales and collector of cook books. Our family would like to thank all the staff at Selkirk Place for their exceptional care of our mom over the last two years.

A Memorial Service will be held in MCCALL BROS. FLORAL CHAPEL, Johnson & Vancouver Streets, on Wednesday, April 20, 2011 at 2:00 pm with an informal reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to either the Alzheimer Society of BC or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

    Dear Haas Family,

I have fond memories of your Mom. I recall during our UVIC days, from time to time I would go with Linda and hang out at Russ’s family home. Ruth was always a very gracious host and it was clearly apparent that she enjoyed Russ and Linda’s friends. I remember her genuine smile and welcoming presence.
Her love will be with you forever.

So many wonderful memories come to the fore of a great
friend. We had some fun times and if you needed a hat, gloves
or purse for a special event guess who had it. Will miss you
good friend – rest in peace.

Russ, Jim and Maureen our thoughts are with you at this sad time.

    Dear Haas family,
So sorry to hear of your loss. I have many fond memories of times with Ruth. The highlights had to be taking her to see a Broadway show in Vancouver with Jim and an Ice Capades show with Merle in Victoria. I had the honor of becoming a Canadian citizen on her 80th birthday, so we will always have that bond. I hope to make the service, but not sure if I can get out of work commitments yet. She has a wonderful place in my heart and I loved her dearly. She will be missed.
    Kathy
