Mom died peacefully on the morning of November 16, 2024, family at her side. She is survived by her three children, Eleanor (Wayne), Allen (Candice), Glen (Vicki), 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Mom was born in Gravelbourg, SK on August 15, 1929 to Rose and Jack Hoehn, third youngest of nine children. While depression-era life was challenging, she had many happy memories of baseball, picnics, and laughter with her parents and siblings.
In her early 20’s, Mom moved to Riondel, BC, living and working at the Bluebell Mine where she met Carmen. They were married on November 8, 1952, remaining dedicated, loving life partners for 48 years, until Dad’s passing in 2000.
Mom and Dad left Kootenay Bay in 1960 to take up farming in Alberta. But, reminded of how much they disliked prairie winters, they finally settled in Central Saanich on Vancouver Island, where our family lived until 1972. After a brief time in Armstrong, Mom and Dad moved to Dawson Creek.
One of Mom’s loves was time in her kitchen, cooking, canning and baking fancy treats for her family. While living in Dawson Creek she followed her dream to become a Professional Cook, graduating from Northern Lights College, and then commanding the kitchen at the Park Hotel.
In 1984, Mom and Dad returned to Victoria to enjoy their retirement years with their children and grandchildren. Mom was a most active volunteer, dedicating more than 35 years to the Royal Jubilee Hospital Auxiliary in Victoria. A prolific knitter, she created many, many baby sweater sets and blankets, all well appreciated by customers of the RJH gift shop. As a member of the Oak Bay United Church, she happily spent many hours as a volunteer with the Thrift Shop.
Our mother was an incredible role model, kind, compassionate, and giving. By example, she taught us strength of character, the value of positivity, and to live our best lives with mindfulness and gentle dignity.
We miss you, Mom. You will live forever in our hearts. A private family gathering will be held at a later date.

Alice Brehmer Auntie Ruth, the last of the Hoehn children. A long life , well lived.
I deeply admired my grandma, she was such a strong woman who loved her family so much. And she was filled with wisdom and advice that I often relied on in life. I will fondly cherish my memories of my life with her and my grandpa.
