Sandra Ann Chisholm MacLean Aitken passed away peacefully after a heroic battle with cancer on August 19th, 2017 in Victoria, BC. She was born on March 8th, 1958 in Dunoon, Argyll, Scotland.

Sandra is survived by her daughter Claire, brother Colin and wife Elizabeth, their three children Kyle, Quinlan and Liam and cousin Irene. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Sandra emigrated to Canada with her family in 1966. After a short stint in Toronto, the family moved to the West Coast of Canada finally settling in Salt Spring for the remainder of Sandra’s grade school years. It was here that Sandra enjoyed spending time with the family dog, Glenn, at St. Mary’s Lake and nurtured her love of tennis, an interest she carried throughout her life. Sandra went on to become a successful career woman and even a more successful mother. Sandra was an excellent baker and was famous for her Christmas trifle. She was fun-loving with a sharp and sassy sense of humour. Her ideal day was to be nestled on her couch with a good book, a bouquet of bright flowers, and a box of chocolates while listening to jazz.

A celebration of Sandra’s life will be held in the Sequoia Centre at McCall Gardens, 4665 Falaise Drive on Sunday, August 27th, 2017 at 11 am.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate that donations be made to the BC Cancer Agency, 2410 Lee Avenue Victoria BC V8R 6V5.

To Claire and all of Sandra’s family !
I first met Sandra when I came to work in her office in May, 2010. She was one of the best bosses I had ever had and I so admired her caring demeanor and “make it happen” approach to both life and to her work. It was very evident she adored her Claire and besides being her Mom, she was her friend. She was a lovely role model and she will be missed.

Our heartfelt condolences to all the family especially Claire at this sad time. Sandra, a beautiful strong humorous lady taken too soon but who has left so many wonderful memories for us all to remember. We know you are at peace now and will be looking down on your loved ones and taking care of them as they have for you. You are all in our hearts and thoughts. xxx

I was so upset when my brother Iain and my best friend Margaret and their children, Sandra and Colin went to Canada. I have such happy memories when we were all together in Dunoon with our families and friends. I cherish these times together and I am really happy you all had a wonderful life in Canada. I was so happy when you came back to visit family and friends and cherish these memories even more.

Sandra and Colin, you are my favourite niece and nephew and I loved talking to you on the phone. I have such fond memories of Sandra laughing and playing with Lynne and Janice and of the mischief that Colin and Keith got up to.

I miss my brother Iain and best friend Margaret, but I take comfort that Sandra is now with her parents.
Goodnight My sweet wee darling Sandra, I will always love and think of you.

I will always be thinking of Claire, Colin and family, too. Love always, Aunt Ethel xx

Claire, Colin, family and friends, we are all sorry to hear of your loss. Remembering so many happy memories of my wee cousin Sandra brings some comfort at this sad time and hope it gives you all much comfort too. From young children playing in Uncle Iain and Aunt Margaret’s garden in Dunoon with Glen, their gorgeous fluffy dog; to returning on holiday to Gran (Elsie) MacLean’s home in Kilmun, with ice cream cones all melting in the summer sun; and of a short time together at my Mum’s (Ethel’s) home in Glasgow, there was always much fun and laughter with great memories of Sandra, a beautiful person in every way, with her beautiful smile, her kind sweet and fun loving nature. Thinking of you all. xxx

    Dear little cousin,

So sorry to hear about Sandra, I know how much you will be missing your mum. I was looking at the photos your Uncle Ken took of us all when you visited my dad (your Great uncle Duncan) and us in 2007. Dad enjoyed your visit so much. You will be in my thoughts
    on Sunday

    love from Janette McLean

  • Claire Anne Stevenson (Shannon)

We are so sorry for your loss Claire and family. Our thoughts are with you all at this sad time and we are sending our love.

Sandra, my big cousin, I am so glad that I had the opportunity to get to know you. We have lived hundreds of miles apart our whole lives but got along famously when we met. I will always remember how light heartedly challenged my dad about waking times and time to leave the house when going on an outing. The thought of it always makes me laugh. You certainly had gumption!

My heartfelt condolences go out to Claire. Lots of love.

  • Laura Beckett

    Dearest Claire
We are so deeply sorry. She was too young, with so much yet to do and see, especially with you, who she loved so, so much. We give you our love, always. I am very sorry that Bob and I can’t be there on Sunday, but we will see you soon.
Love, Laura and Bob Beckett and Family xoxo

    To Claire, family and friends,
I wish to extend my heartfelt condolences.

I had the honour and pleasure of working with Sandra since 2009. We quickly developed a wonderful relationship which developed into a working ‘M(a)cLean cousins’ relationship. This is a true loss of an amazing person who I know has left memories to cherish.
