It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our beautiful Sarah (Sam, Sammy, Sasa, Sassy) Ball (nee McCaghey). Sarah lost her two-year battle with lung cancer on August 18th, 2022.
Predeceased by her adoring grandparents, Ken and Eileen Wills, and Duff and Audre McCaghey. Sarah’s love will live on in her husband Dave, sons Brady and Spencer, her constant companion Chewy, parents Duff and Pam McCaghey, sister and best friend Melissa (Ryan) Braun, Dave’s parents, Pat Ball, Russ and Chriss Ball, along with Dave’s brothers Chris (Mel) Ball, Mike (Sue/Malu) Ball, Gord (Kara) Clemens, Richard Clemens, her nieces and nephews, Mackenzie and Lexie Braun; Joey, Blake, Emma Ball; Victoria, Elliot, Bella Ball, Hayden Clemens; many special Aunts, Uncles, cousins and so many friends who were like family.
Sarah was born on May 18, 1980. As a young person, Sarah had a contagious smile that had the ability to make everyone feel special. She was the most thoughtful daughter, sister and granddaughter. She met the love of her life, Dave, at Lambrick Park Secondary and they married in 2003. It is a Gordon Head love story that will last forever. Their dedication to one another and to their family is an inspiration to us all. Sarah had a huge impact on the community. She worked tirelessly in everything she did, including her roles on school PACs, the organizing of many fundraisers and special events. She inherited her love of sports which began at a young age. Whether she was your teammate, captain, coach, manager or biggest cheerleader, you could always count on her grit, determination, enthusiasm and sportsmanship. Some of her proudest moments this past year were watching her boys succeed on the court, the field and the track.
“Mrs. Ball” was known in the Victoria School District as an energetic, creative, motivating and inspiring teacher. For 16 years, Hillcrest Elementary was her second home. She made learning fun! Her passion and love for her students and colleagues and the leadership she provided both in and out of the classroom, left a lasting impact on the school community.
Sarah was forever finding ways to make every moment meaningful. We are all so fortunate to share so many wonderful memories with Sarah. These memories were continually documented in the thousands of amazing photos she took. Just this past July, our family spent our annual week at Parksville, where Sarah was determined to fulfill every tradition. Thank you to the Saanich Fire Department for their assistance to Dave and the family the past two years. We are very appreciative of Sarah’s close friends who gave her daily support and to all of you who reached out to our family. We are moved by your generosity and are especially grateful for the heartfelt thoughts of how Sarah truly made a difference and touched so many in a positive way. Every moment spent with her changed our lives for the better. Her immense love, spirit and beautiful smile will forever remain in our hearts and thoughts. Sarah was the most loving and proud mom. Her amazing qualities live on in Brady and Spencer. “Agoo Muma”

I am so sorry, I often chatted with Sara on the side of
the hockey field. Always a pleasure.
We share our condolences with the Ball and McCaghey families, our treasured friends. Sarah was loved by so many and will always be lovingly remembered. Lots of Love, Jim, Maureen, Mariel and Darcy McDermott.
Dave, Brady, Spencer, Pam, Melissa, Mackenzie, and Lexie, may the years of happy memories help you through this most difficult of times.
Duff, Pam and Family,
Jay and I send our heartfelt condolences in the loss of your precious Sarah. Loss at anytime is heartbreaking but when someone like Sarah is taken it’s so very hard to make any sense of it. It’s very clear she lived an a incredible life and made such a difference with her students. It sounds also like her marriage was a true love story and to have two boys just topped it off. Wrap yourselves in all your memories together and never let them go. Again we our so very, very sorry for such a heartbreaking loss. Love and prayers to all Sarahs Family.
Hugs to all, Sue and Jay Chudleigh
Dear Duff, Pam and Family
The beautiful tributes and memories shared are heart warming and speak volumes of Sarah’s endearing character. Our world is that much richer due to Sarah’s generosity. She looked out for and cared for others in a loving, gentle, and giving manner.
Respectfully,
Ajmare and Catherine Sundher
I was so sad when I heard of Sarah’s passing. My condolences to Pam and Duff and the rest of the family. Sometimes, life does not seem fair!
Thinking of all of you at this time. We remember Sarah working at Video stop and Dave hanging out. When I took my 2 grandsons for an Open House at Hillcrest, Sarah went out of her way to come and welcome us. Good times at preschool, Torquay and Lambrick Park schools. Our thoughts are with you. Nancy and Dave Hodgson
I am deeply saddened to learn of Sarah’s passing. I had the privilege to get to know her as a loving and dynamic student at Lambrick Park, then as a student teacher at Rogers – she had found her calling as a teacher.
To lose such a warm and loving spirit, I can imagine the pain and loss by Dave, their boys and the many lives she touched.
My sincerest condolences,
Judy Harrison
Duff, I am so very sorry.
Dear Dave and family.
Such sad, sad news….you, your boys and family have our most sincere condolences. I only met Sarah a few times but she was always so lovely and to be taken away far too soon is just devastating. Hopefully you will let those close to you wrap their arms around you to give you comfort and support.
