With great regret, we announce the passing of Settimio Colistro, our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He passed away peacefully the morning of August 23rd, 2018 with his sons Vincent and Joseph nearby, at Saanich Peninsula Extended Care on Vancouver Island, BC.  Settimio was born in Grimaldi, Italy and was the seventh of seven sons, hence the name Settimio.

Predeceased by his wife Livia (nee Potestio) in 2003 and daughter Maria (Ewen) in 2015, he is survived by his sons, Vincent (Christine) and Joseph (Claire); son-in-law Garth Ewen; his grandchildren, Tammy, Anthony, Faye, Elizabeth, Timio, Vincent and Livia; and great-grandchildren, Jordon, Braydon, Kya, Nate, Livia, Oscar and Lucy.

Settimio married a hometown girl, Livia Potestio in 1951 and had two children, Vincent and Maria.  In 1953, he moved his small family out of war-ravaged Italy to Canada, where he found work as a mechanic/welder at the army base in Wainwright, Alberta. Settimio’s third child Joseph was born in Wainwright.  Settimio spent many happy years working with his good friends at Camp Wainwright.

In the late 60’s when the children needed to move to Edmonton to further their education, Settimio and Livia also moved.  His final job until retirement in 1988 was with the Canadian Forest Service.  He loved this job as he travelled the province of Alberta maintaining the forestry department’s research projects.

After retirement, he moved to Victoria, BC where Settimio and Livia lived happily nearby their son Joseph,  daughter Maria and their families.  Their son Vincent and his family who were living in Saskatchewan had many happy holidays with them in Victoria.

A Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 10030 3rd Street,  Sidney, BC on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 11:00 am with refreshments to follow after the service. Following the service, interment will take place at the Mausoleum at Royal Oak Burial Park, 4673 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation https://sphf.ca/donate/
