December 12, 1925 – August 27, 2011

Sheila was born in Toronto, educated at St. Clemens School and after two years of training as a Nurse, she received a BA degree from the University of Toronto. In 1950 she married John, who was just finishing his PhD in Physics. For the next 7 years, with a year’s break in England, they lived in Toronto where their three daughters were born. In 1957, with her family, Sheila moved to London, Ontario, where John joined the staff of the London Cancer Centre. There she made many friends and while raising her three daughters, she followed her career as a real estate conveyancer. She also volunteered with the University Hospital, May Court and the Crisis Centre. In 1986, she and John retired to Victoria, BC, where once again she made many friends and gave her services to Meals on Wheels and Divorce Lifeline. She also took up both lawn and alley bowling and enjoyed both for many years. They also took up ocean cruising and so travelled the world, making more friends where ever they went. She is survived by her husband of 61 years; her three daughters, Sandy McBride (Terry), Alison Rose (Michael) and Jeannie Ferrie (Ian); grandchildren, Todd and Callum McBride, Chris, Miranda and Simon Rose and Colin and Johanna Ferrie; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Desmond, and Darwin; elder sister, Dr. Vivian Abbott and her sister-in-law, Lois Duggan. They will all miss this outstanding and loving lady.

A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Victoria Cancer Centre would be welcome. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.mccallbros.com.

I have so many happy childhood memories of “Mrs. MacDonald” from the days when there was practically a path worn between our two houses on Louise Blvd. My sisters, Ann and Leslie, and I had the good fortune to perfectly match you three MacDonald girls in age and what fun times we had! Your mom was always so nice to us and I still appreciate the fact that she affectionately nicknamed me Daisy. She made me feel special.

Heartfelt condolences to the three of you and to your Dad.

I am very sorry to read in the Globe and Mail of the loss of your mother. I remember you three energetic girls and am sure you gave her much pleasure and many happy memories. My mother passed away seven years ago and miss her very much, so I feel your loss.

Alison, I hope that you remember me (Mary Anne Millar [now White]) from your days at Masonville, although I don’t think we have seen each other since about 1970. If you’d like to catch up, you can reach me at white.maryanne@gmail.com I live in Halifax and would love to hear from you.

With sincere condolences to you all,

    Mary Anne

“Mrs. MacDonald” was a big part of my teenage years back in London, Ontario – I was always welcomed by her big hugs and made to feel welcome in their home. Truly a kind, lovely lady who will be missed by her family.
